Ilike probably lots of you have had problems with my steering rod that runs from the pitman arm to the passenger side swivel hub bending when the front end reaches max articulation I have a 5 link front end and 4 inch coils
I sort of fixed this by making a s shaped steering arm to reduce the angle on the tie rods works great but when turning the rod twists making the tierods contact the swivel hub or the pitman arm making loud banging noises im thinking its only a matter of time untill it brakes
Was wondering if anyone had toyed with the idea of lifting the conection point on the passengerside swivel hub so as to beable to use a standard steering arm running level across the front of the vehicle I wa going to use some 1 inch thick flat bar to bolt on the top of the swivel hub and also bolt into the original conection point on the swivel hub making a good strong mounting then machining a tapperd hole to suit the tierod might have to make the steering arm shorter as it now dosent have to run down at an angle also makes it higher and keeps it out of harms way any thoughts would be great or am i the only one suffering from this thought Carlton mod was good but leaves every thing low and exposed

I actually only did what I did to get the tie-rod up out of the rocks, but it did end up lifting the knuckle end of the draglink about 50mm as well.
I never had a problem with the draglink once I ran one that had the ends tweaked flat, but I was bending a tierod every trip out.

Carlton, Have you sorted out the steering dampers out yet and if so —how is the bump-steer on your new GQ/MQ hybrid steering set up? Has having the steering arm and panhard rod a similar length made it any better than before?
Hi,
My setup for 5 link is made (by myself...) using this kind of king pin 1" thick plate (but made in a sort of "Z" shape, to have an even more zero angle for the rod...(do yoy understand what I mean?!).
The problem was that this piece can't be tied very strong...in about 200 km running Simex get loose and I have to stop and re-tied it....preaty dengerous, isn'T?!?!
If you want to see in details what kind of setup I'm talking about go to www.pirate4x4.com, there in Technical pages you will find an article regarding steering...I'm preaty sure it helps.
Regards
