Hi all looking at getting a rocky ute and was woundering how many types of 2.8 diesel engines there are?
I know there is a chain drive and a belt drive and also some are turbo, which one is better and is the turbo a different engine again ?
thanks for your help
ps how much fuel do they use and what is the towing limit?

The Turbo Intercooled motor is best of course! :armsup:

The DL-42 and DL-52 motors are both Belt Driven OHV.

The DL-42 is naturally aspirated whereas the DL-52 is Turboed. This motor also came intercooled.

DL-42 = 54kw@3800rpm and 170Nm@2200rpm
DL-52 = 75kw@3400rpm and 245Nm@1900rpm.
As you can see, power delivery is at a much lower rpm in the turboed model. Hence better economy

They are good on fuel.. depends on the motor and driving you do.

The towing limit stated for my 1993 model is 3500kg... although I wouldn't like to do this very regularly... lol

All the bare motor size dimensions through all the configurations are identical. Its the bolt ons that add to the overall change of dimensions.

And not all DL52 and 62's are belt drive OHV. Check the front timing cover. If its alloy, its chain drive, if its plastic, its belt drive.

They are essentially the same motor, but there are, IIRC, over 100 changed internally that were made at the factory to deal with the turbo.

You can, of course, add a factory or aftermarket intercooler to a turboed motor.

And I have had 3.8 tonne behind mine. It handled it reasonably well, but as stated, I would not tow that kind of weight for any great distance.

Thanks for that, i have found a motor but it is a DG chain drive what type is this and is it any good thanks.

The DG motors are actually 2.5 litre, out of the older Scats. Dont quote me, but I think they bolt straight in as well. Someone else will give you the definative answer.
