'84 Sierra
'84 Sierra
HEy everyone!
We just went out and bought my brother in law an 84 suzuki sierra.
1L motor, 4speed gearbox, no aircon, no power steering.
It runs slightly rough and needs a bit of body work.
Anyhow- just wanted to find out where i can get parts for these things in WA (body lifts, etc etc) and if anyone has a site or downloadable manual that will give me the timing, plug gaps, carby settings and all that sort of stuff so we can get this thing running half decent again.
Cheers Fellas (and ladys!)

Kewl, i am up wanneroo way.
Not much in the way pf aftermarket parts esp for the 1L. Barwork, wheels and tyres you can get ok but lockers and that u can't.
LJ sierras and 1L's have the same diffs so u can get different ratios for them.
Christova1 has a modded 1L LWB zook on here. Mines a 1.3 but may be able to help ya out, depending on what u want to do.

The only reason we got the 1l was because we got the car for $800, and we were struggling to find any zooks around perth for a half decent price.
It needs a bit of body work - but that we are going to do, which is the easy part.
That suzki info site was pretty handy - we need to do plug gaps and what not. Thanks for that!!
Are the body blocks on these anything similar to the TJ wrangler? If it is, than a body lift will be a piece of cake (1 inch anyway).
Thanks for your help fellas,
Cheers

1" may be ok with original bolts.
1L's i think are different and that they use normal bolts so should be easy and use longer bolts and box with crush tube, or HPDE blocks.
If it 1.3 style that uses captive bolts then easyiest to buy a kit for ~350 or make one up if you know a machine shop.
Thanks

You aren't really intending to add Air conditioning & Power Steering to a 1litre are you?
Hi mate,
Good to hear another zooker is in perth. I just bought a BL off fatzook off the nbs forum. I also have a pdf of the manual for the zook if you interested. I could even burn you a copy if you like. Its around 260Mb.
Posting on perth4x4 site will help for parts and help as well as on here and the nbs forum.
Good luck mate,
Cheers
Sadiq

Drover_Pete, no we werent planning on adding aircon to the 1lt. Although power steering might come in handy - but lack of power would be a concern!!
Sirzooky - do you mind if a get a copy of that from you? How much do you want for a copy of it??
Is there somehwere where i can find out where the body bolts are? Are there any in any really odd spots?
Cheers For all the help everyone

There are 6 captive body bolts. two behind the front wheels on outriggers and four in front of the rear wheels in line with the front spring mount. Of these, two are outside the chassis rail and two are inside.
Otherwise there are 4 10mm bolts two at each end of the chassis. to get to the frontmost two you will have to pull the headlights out.
You might be able to go to a 1" body lift with the stock body bolts but this will most likely require cutting down the rubber bush that sits under the chassis between the chassis and the nut. I am not sure this is a good idea, especially as a 1" body lift will not make much difference to the tyre size you can run.
In all honesty, once you have a locker in a diff, the tall crawl ratio of the 1.0 and the limited bottom end will make the clutch suffer with anything around a 28"+ tyre, so you won't need a BL to get into strife there. The cheapest way sround this problem might be to find a junk LJ50 and use the 4.88 diff gears out of it. This will help with offsetting a decent tyre size.
If you decide to go to a BL, I would look to a reversible 2" lift, this will let you get up to a 31" tyre on with some guard work. Optimum gearing for a 31 in a 1.0 seems to be a 4:1 transfer and 4.88's in the diffs. It does make far a 5200RPM 100kph cruise though, but the car seems to pull very well, even on really steep terrain.
Steve.

I have 4 captive bolts on mine. 2 on each side just infront of the rear wheels and just behind the front wheels.
the six normal bolts are 2 at the front (remove headlights) 2 in the rear(open tailgate and you see them) and 2 behind the front seats which are accessed by lifting the carpet up.
i have done a reversable 3inch body lift and i run 31 Simex peds ET's which are the size of a 32 and they fit under the guards.
If you require pics then please let me know. Mine is also a 1984 1lt hardtop.
Cheers

Hookers are like bowling balls, You pick them up, put your fingers in them, then throw them in the gutter and they come back for more.
84zooksta,
Can i please get some photos? if you could email them to private_wallace@iinet.net.au that would be even better!!
At the moment, im just looking to find out some info for when we get it all fixed up. We are goign to start stripping it down today - sand everything back and then give her a new paint job.
Once that is done - we will start looking at all these bits and pieces.
Can someone explain what a "reversable body lift" is?
Cheers Again

Yeah,
ITs not going to be used as a competition car or anything - he just wants something that is good enough to take him to work and back, and somethign that is plenty capable off-road!
We started pulling her apart tonight. Took all the doors off, windows out, bonnet, everything off her and started sanding her back for a new paint job.
Bumpers and all that are getting new paint - and the under carriage is getting redone as well!
When we are done a lift will be going on, possibly the 1.3 with a 5 speed (1lt with a 4 speed screams at 90 km/h).
I will take some pics tomorrow night and post them up.
Cheers
