35 tyres onto GU rear door

Post by 4by »

G'day all,

How do I fit 35" tyres onto GU rear door with 15" cruiser offset rims.
I have added a 25mm spacer for my current 285's.

I thought about fitting the wheel in reverse but will this damage the door.

Any ideas????
Cheers.......4by.

If you put Keymar bracket, you can fit 35's on the rear door.
Have you considered extra weight?
I have 285/75/16 on the rear door and it has developed a crack at the bottom of the window.Prety common.

agree on the extra weight bit....
another option is run the tire flat, and inflat it when you need it, makes it smaller.

Kaymar Rear Bracket = $112 rrp from ARB
ARB Rear Bracket = $45 rrp

Only difference.....no bracket for the $250 extension light pole

Guess which one I just got.
Both are 3 position adjustable. I only need mine on the lowest one to fit 305/70R16

Hi Besty,

How does the size of the 305/70/16 compare to the 35/12.5/15. I imagine the 15 inch rim being a cruiser rim with a different offset would fit differently to the door.

Is the weight with the new rear bracket doing any damage to the door?

I think a 305/70/16 is roughly the same as 285/75/16 - both approx. 33".

A 35 is a 35 whether on a 15 or 16 inch rim.

I think you will need the height adjustment (ie, mounts higher up on the door) as the bumper gets in the way just as much as the spacing out from the door.

still gettin me head around this metric crap. (google helped)... 285/75 would be better option if you were touring since its more easily available correct?

That's funny - until I bought a 4WD that was all I knew - metric. I spent ages trying to get my head around what a 31, 32, 33 was!!!!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know where I can find a conversion for the old alphanumeric tyre sizes fron the '70's?

I want to know how big a G50 - 14 is? How wide is "G"? 50 is the aspect ratio, 14 is the rim size.
Thanks

35's are bigger and heavier than 285/75/16(33s) so I wouldn't hold my breath.

305/70/16 is same rolling diameter as 285/75/16,but 20 mm wider.
My BIL has MT Baja Claws in that size(305/70/16)

MTR's.........got for good price of <$340ea fitted, balanced and aligned

or I could have had the 285/75R16 for <$290 inclusive.

Not yeet, but am keeping a close eye on it......despite mine only being a 33"x12 R16

and yes both the 285/75 and 305/70 have exactly same rolling diameter....jusst ones 11.5" wide and the other is 12" wide.

And YES......they are on standard GU 16x7JJ rims

i reversed into a pole 2 years ago and haven't seen any sighns of it cracking even with it slightly bent.
I have heard stories but haven't seen it. Always wanted to get a Kaymar but too pricey.

Well, looks like I have no choice. If I want 35 " tyres I should carry an equal spare. I don't mind driving a short distance with smaller 285/75/16, but not on long bush trips.

I'll buy a suitable bracket to fit the 35" tyre onto the rear door and hope I see no crack....... :)
