IFS Steering Boxes

How much are people paying for hilux IFS steering boxes out of wreckers? Are they easiy to rebuild?

rebuild is expensive, Thompsons auto parts are the cheapest and best. Try to get one in good condition that needs no reconditiong as you are looking at $500 plus parts for steering box rebuild.
hands and mums dont count!!!

Try some of the JAP import places, a mate of mine got a Surf front cut with everything on it for $400.00!!!!

I was told last night that 4wd parts australia at brendale/strathpine sell them for $200-00 this was told to me by a former employee of theirs.

That is where i got mine from!!

I was quoted $200.00 but i got it for $150.00, probably from the same PREVIOUS employer!

Hey

I was quoted $750 for a rebuilt box from 4x4 parts at strathpine. They would not sell me one that has not been rebuilt!!

I just left mine to leak... Its easier to just keep topping it up.

Apparently a steering box from a 60 series will work on the IFS hilux?

A 60series or a 75series will not work on a hilux in the standard possition as the pitman arm points forward not backward.

the 60 will work, but the design is different on the hilux frame, they got a lot of crap in the way as opposed to a cruiser.

The 60 wont work in the factory position. The only way to make it fit is to place it either way back behind the diff and make a new steering arm behind the diff to conect it. Or fit it above the diff and make new shock towers and hope the steering arms dont foul each other.
It is not just one extra bolt on the 60 box.



Simply buy an IFS box or root around for a long time trying to fit something that is not even close to being designed to fit.

I paid $75 for one out of the local paper, they guy rolled his truck, was uninsured, so wrecked out his truck. Only had 160k on it.

you can, it needs to be stripped down and cleaned thooughly. BUT it is a bit of a nightmare. it is what i was up for when i went hydro

HEY FELLAS;
Can some one post pics of both ifs hilux box and a cruiser box as i have a box in the shed i got off a mate but it doesnt look like a lux box that is it looks like it has to be bolted inside the chasis rail. :? :? :? :? :roll:
