i recently aquired a 84' fj45 ute(according to the shiny silver plate on the firewall) and am unable to locate the vin numbers on the chassis,
according to 'google' its supposed to be front right near the hook by the bullbar. But i dont see it.
also
its a 4 sp with disk brakes and has a tailshaft handbrake thingy
i no nothing about cruisers, but i believe 84' the handbrakes were shifted to the rear drums? and they ran a 5sp box?
so i might have some older chassie ? dunno?
what do u think?

You're close, it is stamped on the outside of the right frame rail. Accumulation of dirt and rust may hide it, so you may have to take a wirebrush to it to see it.
Disc brakes on a 45 ute? It may have the brakes swapped in from a 40 series. The transfer drum brake is usually found on well body 45 series pickups and troopies. It may have started life as a well body pick up. Does the model designation on the silver plate end with a "Q" or with a "3"? If it ends with a "Q" it was a well body pick up, if it ends with a "3" it was a cab chassis.
