Hi all this is the first time I posted a message here. Read a fair few tips but and most of you guys seem to know what your talking about.
I bought a 1992 hilux 2.8litre deisel dual cab bout a month ago. Its been losing coolent slowy I thought through a leek how ever last night it fully blow the lot and overheated right of the gauge before I realised it had happened.
There are bubbles coming up in the radiator so I think I have done a head gasket (Hopefully not a head)
it also lost a heap of oil after it over heated
can anyone tell me if its worth replacing the gasket or since I have to go that far anyhow should I do a rebuild? also can anyone tell me roughly what price I would be looking at for a rebuild kit and if I do rebuild it are there any mods worth whle looking at with a view to turboing it down the track
also are there any rubber oil seals that could have melted when it over heated or would the leaking oil be just because the oil would have got so thin being that hot?
Thanks in advance
had to have the injector pump rebuilt two weeks ago.

only way to know is to whip the head off and have a look
If you cooked it really bad you could have cracked/warped the head, in which case a gasket wont be your answer (could be a temporary fix though).
Leaking oil could have been through the head-gasket aswell, you have oil galleries going up into the head, when the head was really cooking it may have warped and let oil out, did you have any oil in your radiator?> normally a brown gooey stuff that sticks to the radiator cap in a diesel.

do your shopping... i eventually found a minor re-ring kit for my 2L motorfor only 280 bucks... add 700 to 1000 for the head work and your back in business... add in the tools i didnt have ( valve spring compressor, ring compressor etc) my motor was rebuilt for less than 500
