Stripped Thread on Rear shock mount of GQ..

Post by stewie81 »

Hey fellas.
Just wondering if there is a way to replace the Rear Lower shock mount passenger side.

I was just changing to stock springs today to paint my lifted ones and when putting bolt back on it stripped thread.... :-(

So does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem..

Cheers..

run a die nut over it, if it's not too badly stripped

agrees with chops die nut

then again i have also found using a castle nut works just the same when you wind it on in the reverse direction that you normaly would with a castle nut
dont it chops ;)

Thanks for the replys so far..
I would think with my limited experience that it is pretty bad.
It is all striped except for 2 of 3 little threads at the base of Shaft..

So I guess it prob cant be replaced?

Cheers guys

Dunno bout winding it on in reverse :P

A castellated nut CAN help clear the crap/rust/whatever stuck in the thread, as the castle sections allow for the bits to fly free

Is the nut removeable? Or in a fixed/welded position?

Stewie do you have a photo of the stripped thread?

i should say that again i did not mean wind it on in reverse i meant to say it wind it on upside down so the groves are wound on first ... that is wat i meant by reverse

You can get replacement shock mounts to weld on in place of the factory ones or you can go to a wreckers and get another diff housing that may be bent etc and cut the shock mount off and replace yours. Chat to Cheezy on this board for more help. :D

superior engineering make a mount that sits up higher, you'll need to get them welded on though
