Anyone out there got any tricks to get CVs out.
Snapped front left axel and exploded the CV, now that came out easy.
Got to donor diff yesterday to pull out CV, and had a bitch of a time. Ended up getting the old grinder into the area so i could pull it out a bit easier.
If this usual, or am i missing something.

Assuming you have taken the stub axle off, CV's usually just "slide right out" - they are flattened on either side meaning that you need to rotate the CV until the flat parts are top and bottom of the swivel ball.
If you did that and still couldn't get it out ... you have problems!
Sometimes if a CV is cracked, but not shattered the outer cup will expand to a point where it is difficult to rotate / remove. An intertia puller is the go here.

If it's worth doing - it's worth doing to excess ...
the cv i pulled out of the donor axel was a birfield. It was round the whole way round, with no flat spots. Have checked it and its good, no cracks.
Could this be the reason it was a bitch to get out?

All the CV joints I have ever installed/removed from my MQ have been round - no flat spots at all - and I have never had trouble removing them. They just slide out once you have removed the stub axle. Any idea what's holding it? You could always try removing the knucke flange, axle and all, so that you can look at it from the "inside" to see what the problem is.
