Mate thanks for the complement on the photos.
Have had a few people asking same questions - so thought id post the info for whoever is interested!
Info about night shots are from the first photos i posted on page 21
Camera is a Nikon D70s
Lens 1, is a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED
Lens 2, TAMRON AF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 LD TELE-MACRO(1:2)
Night shots were with Lens 1 and yes i did use tripod.
Night shot with orange truck #36 Sandy & Alison
No flash
Focal length 38mm
Exposure time 13 seconds
f/6.3
Night shot white truck #42 Roger & Grant
No flash
Focal length 70mm
Exposure time 13 seconds
f/6.3
Although though it may appear as though i know what im doing with a camera i actually dont - only just starting to get into it and the info about the night shots comes straight from the properties of the photo - aint the digital world great.
Cheers

PS feel free to pm me if you have any further questions or advice - keen to learn from others.
Ian dont go as a spectator, I did this year and its not value for money(especially when you have to put up with GQJacko).
Not sure what you get as a marshal, but I have marshalled here in NZ for the last 5 years. We got 3 meals a day and accomodiation, plus got real close to the event. However you only see the stage youy are posted on.
Think about it

Only got my camera a couple of months ago so still new to the digital SLR world! How long u had yours mate! and u still had to ask me for help!
U Kiwis wouldnt have had any photos if it wasnt for me charging your batteries all the time - you guys hardly left enough charge in my battery to keep the engle running and the rums cold.
Now i know why we cut that bit of rock and dirt off of the east coast of australia - it was to house all the clowns like you. LOL! BAAAAAAA! BAAAAA! MAAA!
Mate my company and guidance couldnt have been too bad, u kept coming back each day and u kept hanging around our camp fire telling all sorts of stories till the wee hours of the morning.
Anyway it was great to meet you and all the rest of the Kiwis - enjoyed your company. Pitty you guys couldnt work out that you "kick" a football!
Cheers
Jacko
PS Ian dont listen to Legsx1 hes a kiwi!
Not 100% sure but the guy himself told us on Friday night before the event he had done a piston.nackers wrote:Does anybody know what happened to the big suzuki, we saw it in the caravan park before the event but i havent seen anything of it since.
I then heard later in the week that he had replaced the piston only to have the same happen again. I presume before he was able to do any racing.
Jacko
Thats correct Jacko.
The Zook has a V6 commodore motor and was taken of the trailor at Mildura to give it a run. A noise was discovered in the motor so it was pulled apart at Brioken Hill to be checked but nothing major found so put back together only to have the same prob. It was put down to piston slop but as it needed a 20thou oversized piston and it was the weekend, even with 100s of calls Aust wide nothing could be sourced till Monday morning. It arrived and was installed and taken for a run but was still not 100% so was put back on the trailor and taken home. Plans are well under way to get all them issues sorted and i believe it will be competing very soon in Vic. The effort James from PGS and Brett put in has been massive and both were shattered to have to leave the OBC before even starting.

A mate and i are talking about OBC next year and
Whant to know if we should,
A/ go as spectators or,
B/ put our hands up as Marshalls
What do you recon.
Ian.
There are no shortages of marshalls as most that go have been long time marshalls that have worked together as teams both at OBC and at local Vic events. To be a marshal at OBC and other CCDA events requires you to be a CCDA member and a qualified marshal.
My suggestion is you go along and spectate.

The other option is to be a passage controller for either a competitor group or a spectator group. This would allow you to move around and see the entire comp and not just one area.

yea thats what Crazie was doin, going as a marshall would take it in the ring, as you stay in 1 spot all the event, and only get to see small sections, thats what mates that marshalled said.toughnut wrote:The other option is to be a passage controller for either a competitor group or a spectator group. Ads got to lead all the dudes to all events, and saw all of it.
so many people saying there is no value in the spectator package, I hope they start to take note of this (who am I kidding) and drop the price to $xxx a car instead of per head..
Crazie was my controller. He didn't help us out at all

Well I went as a marshall (first time). WE had more fun setting up. As it was like a good camping trip. Got to sleep in and drink around the fire at night. Once the comp started. We had early mornings and late nights. Mind you haveing so many decide not to do the mud did make the nights much earlier back to camp.bogged wrote:yea thats what Crazie was doin, going as a marshall would take it in the ring, as you stay in 1 spot all the event, and only get to see small sections, thats what mates that marshalled said.toughnut wrote:The other option is to be a passage controller for either a competitor group or a spectator group. And after the 2nd group things where getting very repetitive.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Just sat and watched about 1hr 30mins of in-car footage of the outback challenge. The car in question was number 07, and for those who dont know who number 07 was....Cass Jones and Kevi Nott.
Theres some brilliant footage that I am sure will make the DVD when it comes out. But there is alot more awesome footage that I dare say wont make it either. Must be a hard job putting a DVD like that together, deciding on what footage to put in and what to leave out.

Its the same GQ he had built for tuff truck. He still has his GU and he was going to lease it to the Venezualans (spelling???) but they couldn't sort their visa issues out in America and therefore didn't make it. It's just a different setup to the GU. I wouldn't say better or worse......just different. I watched him run as he was in my group. It tracked along Ok.
