130 tub as camper, any ideas?

Post by def90 »

i've just bought a 130 HCPU tub with stock yellowish canvas top/canopy. $305 not bad i thought (although a ihaven't seen it in the flesh yet  )

i am looking at converting it to a mini camper, just for me and me and the boss when she comes.

just wondering if anyone on this forum has done this before and any pics and ideas? will prob make a steel frame to put the canopy back on and get a small roof top camper?

i have a spare axle from my 90 that i was wondering if a should throw under it and have live axle coils? or a more simple set up?

pics, ideas?

cheers...

Is it from a duel or single cab 130? If duel you will need to extend the front of the tub to get the wheel arch rearward of the middle of the body. Should look great if done properly.

Personally I wouldn't use the axle housing, but coils would be great using a solid axle that takes your LR hubs.

hey def-90 how ya been, if ya interrested ive got a australian army trailer sitting in my back yard i want rid of, i t just a chassi but is the same track as a defender, has new army tyres, i replaced the leafs for new ones, it has mounts for rear shocks, i had it sandblasted and zinc coated ready to turn it into a builders trailer to pull behind the 110 but never got round to it. has got the 360 coupling and ive got a haymen reece tow bar tounge that fits it.

have seen fellas turn them into campers before ( would be the heaviest duty camper ive ever seen ), i reckon that tub would fit on it perfect, would just have to bolt it on and your away.
