60 series rear bar after body lift
Hi all. I have a body lift on the HJ60 and am planning on making a new rear bar for it. I would like to see some pics if others have already done this.
Cheers,
Mark.

I'll try and do the pic thing tomorrow as me 60's at work not home but try and picture this..
I removed the towbar from under the chassis and removed the rear bar exposing the chassis rails. There is a brace thar goes across the rear between the rails. I pulled it off and threw it away, Cut the 'legs' off the tow bar and stuffed it between the chassis to increase departure angle. then made a rear bar, simply bent a length of 40mm od tube at the ends to wrap around slightly (looks like an overgrown towel rail) then stuck a piece of checker plate on top of that. Made some mounts so it sits ontop of the chassis rails.
Pics are needed now that i've read that!
Cheers

I think I get the idea! Sounds a lot easier than what I thought it may be.
Closer pics would be good! Thanks heaps Ruffy.

I looked at ways to lift my bumper for ages (60mm body lift) but ended up putting in a piece of aluminium checker plate to fill the gap. Much cheaper, easier and quicker!
Woohoo, finallylearnt how to link pics!!!

And if you're interested in doing the front this is mine. Obviously i have removed the front valance completely, to allow the bar to tuck under the headlight surrounds and fit nice and snug back against the truck.
I cut the front of the chassis rail at about 45 degress. boxed the front section of chassis and put crush tubes in the three holes remaining. Then boxed the bar mount so it fits over the chssis and then one more bolt through the front cross brace on the chassis. Also with a crush tube.
If you look between the bash plate and bar mount you can just see that bolt.

Thanks a heap guys. Some really good designs there. I also got a couple of pics from BigKev too. I really like your design Ruffy, and it looks relatively easy to make. I have access to a pipe bender and have a large sheet of aluminium checker plate sitting around the workshop already.
Changing the subject completely, I heard that you (Ruffy) changed your diff ratio. How did you go about that (cost etc)?

Bolt does sit on an angle. Cos the apron flex's. It's all good though.
Yep Got 4.88's in her. I used superior gears from Queensland. I think from memory it cost about 9 hunjy for two ring and pinions sets. Could get them cheaper from the states but i couldn't be stuffed and i'd rather keep me dollars here. Bank on spending another 3 to 4 hunjy per diff for them to be fitted and bearings etc. It was around 1500 or 1600 with me R&R diffs etc.Changing the subject completely, I heard that you (Ruffy) changed your diff ratio. Cool, thanks for that. I have the 60 booked in to get the turbo fitted in a couple of weeks. I'll be interested to see how it goes. Thnaks again for the bar pics.Ruffy wrote:Yep Got 4.88's in her. Ok, I have removed the rear bar. The tow bar is proving more difficult so I have sprayed the bolts with CRC and will do so for the next couple of days. Ruffy, how is your tow bar secured between the chassis rails. As I haven't yet taken off the tow bar, I'm not sure, but it looks like an awfully close fit.

I turned it upside down so the "legs" were on the botom. Then bolted it through the botom of the chassis just as it was before, but using different holes cos it's pushed further inward. Also it is a tight fit to get the bar inside the rails, actuals spreads the rails slightly.
Hope that makes sense.
