Alternator replacement help
Alternator replacement help
Ok well i have a new 100Amp Alternator to replace my dead one of my TB42
The problem i am having is the alternator warning light in the cabin stays half lit when the engin is either running or not, not fully on, not fully off.
There are a total of 4 wires. there is a 2 wiare harness, a singel high amp line to the battery and a small one that earths onto the the alternator long with the surpessor.
Which one controlls the voltage sens for the alternator warning light out of the 3 that i know aren't recharging the battery?

going to take her down to the auto elec on monday
Ok here is what i have found
there are 3 main wires, 2 are the same wire off the battery, one end goes to the Battery terminal on the back of the alternator to charge the battery. The other split goes to the sense terminal on the alternator. then there is a third wire that goes from the alternator harness (there the sense voltage is) to the dash cluster to run the charge warning lamp.
I put a multimetre onto the charge warning lamp wire and no matter if the engine is running or not it only gets 3.9v i test the alternator for 14.1v and its not chargning, remove the positive terminal off the battery while the car is going and it stalls, telling me there is no charge comming from the alternator.
Its brand new, so unless i have a dud i can't see how the regulator could be dead

Same problem with mine about 10 years ago and went to an Autoelec he took one look and said yeah its a 'such and such' cant remember now and whacked 1 more wire on and away I went no more faintly glowing warning light. Why dont you post this in Auto elec, the guys that are in there are extra helpful.
