which turbo
im thinking of puting a turbo on my cruiser its recently had the motor rebuilt 2H and has done about 30000 since wat type/make of turbo would be best and where would be a good place to get one from trying to do it cheap as possible ,and will turboing reduce the engine life if done properly
mudpog, how much boost do you want to run and maximum rpm, if you tell me some specs for the engine i can enter it in to my turbo calculator program and tell you which size turbo is suited to the engine.
HZJ75, 3in spring,2in cab,drop shackles,shock hoops and inverted shocks, fourbys 15x10 beadlocks, 36x12.5x15 simex ET2,
Comp Tray,Turboed 1HZ.
HZJ105R, 4in Tough dog, 315 75 16 MTZ, Turbo 1HZ.

ok my turbo calulator input was as follows
engine capicity: 4000cc
fuel: diesel
number of cylinders: 6
max rpm: 4000
turbo boost pressure: 14 psi
single turbo set up, non intercooled
suggested turbos are
Garrett, model T3, compressor trim 50,
turbine hsg a/r 0.82
OR
Garrett GT25 300 HP Model
approx Kw: 155.7
air-kg per minute
hope this is of some help to you.......

Don't know about 14psi being "safe" on an un-cooled 2H! Never seen a 2H rev to 4000rpm either (though i'm sure it can be done in time...)balzackracing wrote:ok my turbo calulator input was as follows

Not picking, it was helpful - just it's no TD42 :(
Apparently a turbo off a nissan 300zx is well suited to a 2h running highish (still sub-14 pound!) boost, if you'r after a scrap job.

the program is called Turbo fast- turbocalc version 2.3, cant remember how or where i got it but its not a bad program calculates engine VE, compresion ratios, turbo maps, petrol injector and pump sizing etc etc etc.
the program requires the max rpm that the engine is capable of and i have seen a 2h in hj47 do 4000rpm so hence that input. and 14 psi as far as safe well i guess its all about the condition of the engine, if you do compression checks, replace big and main bearings and all is fine then there is no reason 14 pound is not a safe figure. a good freind of mine has hj47 that is currently coping with 19-20 pound from a t3/t4 garret hybrid turbo on a hand built manifold on an engine that is still on orignal pistons and rings from the factoy(that very same engine that i said did 4000 rpm), yes it has had the bearings changed but still runs the standard head and a toyota head gasket. ofcourse it dose have a different cam and very large cooling system but this info is for the purpose that these engines can take a bit of abuse if precautions are followed.

I stand corrected! - and i like the sound of that. Not sure i'd be willing to go that far though!

My Safari set up with a T3 runs up to 10 lb boost and spikes at 12 lb in the indirect gears when held flat. I have emailed Safari twice for details and rang their head office the only information I was given was" contact someone who sells them or email us again", some service they don't give. Seems like it is all too much trouble for them as they were not interested in taking my phone number or email address.
sorry for the late reply
thanks for the info balzackracing but im not interested in having to go to the troble of larger cooling sys and all that i use this as a hunting rig ,no fancy mods ,and reliability is the objective ,just want to pull better up hills while travelling ,theres no way this 2h would /will ever see 4000rpm even if i wanted it to
thank again for your effort tho
