hello i have a V8 5.0L Engine Conversion and starting to look for parts useing 308 VS 96 to i dont know who is the best one to go with i went to marks web site and total got lost in what i have to get if you can give me some help would be great motor is going into gq lwb 88 diesel use the patrol gear box if you can help please pm or post me Michael

"Marks" and "Dellow" seem to be the most popular for these type of conversions. The Dellow kit will be a bit cheaper and sits the engine close to the firewall.
There has been a couple of guys recently who have used the Marks kit on this forum, just a matter of waiting for them to answer.
The PCM I was told will be a bit of a shit fight to use with a manual box, but Find a Delco expert and get a quote on a re-map.
He may be able to by-pass the BCM (body control module) at the same time, saving you 400 odd bucks.
Not sure exactly what you will need but this will get you going until someone else chips in.

I did a V8 conversion using Marks adaptor, and found that the bloody thing was out of line. I had to getit machined here in NZ. I understand 3 or 4 others in our club who have the same conversion had the same problem with Marks adaptors. When I emailed Marks about it - they did not want to hnow about it or even help me. It was all all my costs.
Have fun, you will probably spend about 2 months getting it up and running.
With the Marks kit, you get a centre drive spigot which fits over the Nissan gearbox end and into the chevy flywheel end. It has splines for the V8 clutch plate, which will need to use, however if you want to use your Nissan pressure plate and bearing, you will have to get the flywheel drilled and taped for the Nissan Pressure plate. I did as my Nissan pressure plate was a heavy duty one and near new.
Gas cut the Nissan engine mounts off the chassis rails and weld on new ones to suit your engine
You will need to find a good auto sparkie

I got a VR engine out of a SS for mine, to save money and hassels i grabbed a VP loom and computer ( no body control BS ). If you did this it will save you about $400. I finshed the thing last nite and WOW!
The only thing that was a bit of a pain was the exhuast manifolds. I used EFI extractors to suit a VK, only because i had them. They had to be cut up a fair bit to work properly. I would recommend some research on some other manifods. One exhuast guy said HSV factory headers are a better option.

But with a holden motor the passenger is used. The drivers side is right where most extractors want to sit. Im not sure if dellow, CRS ect. do the same. I only used the bellhousing kit, engine mount kit and tacho interface. The speedo interface ill sort out later. I also made up a mount for the P/S pump, its on the drivers side above the Air Con. Its a pump i made up out of a V6 commodore pump and the resivoir of the orignal motor.
The wiring is easy, i had it done in a nite. Had a small problem with the alternator back feeding through the loom and keeping the car running with the key off, but fixed that with a diode and a relay.
Im using a 3 core diesel raidator with VT V8 thermos and a temp switch, will have to see how they go on the beach on the weekend but should be ok i think.

heheh i ordered a shit load of part from monster4x4.com.au ( wich sells marks stuff ) i'm getting more pumped about getting the hmmmmmm v8 and giving it a go

Mines a manual, i had an old 308 flywheel lying around so i just used that. You can use any holden V8 flywheel, just make sure you get a clutch to suit. I also have a auto starter and it works fine with that flywheel.
Just try a wrecker for the flywheel, barsby holden parts in Maryborough would have to have one.

the whole kit from Marks.... including the tacho adaptor will set you back about 3 grand. That includes about $450 for the fuel kit (pump, lift pump, surge tank etc) I think you said you are swapping a diesel, the radiator will be fine... bit of bootyfab on the bottom hose though.... i can take a picture of mine. Will save you 500 bux buying a commodore one. You can use the commodore power steering pump, it's a bit close to the steering box, but a A1170 fan belt gives you ewnough adjustment, and lifts the pump over the steering box. You will however have to modify the hoses. It might ber better to adapt the Nissan one... the Commodore p/steer pumps are prone to leaking (as mine is)

Dellow only make part of what you need... i was originally going to buy the Dellow kit.... turned out i was far better off getting the Marks kit.... when we went though this I got on to dellow for Tony and they assured be it was everything to bolt up and spent ages playing phone tage to sort out wich auto variation it was in Tony's GQ then when they had finnished the adaptor they rang up asking what we were doing with the torqu converter, the dellows required a heap of work done on it the cheapest splitting the case and adapting half a t700 from memory, any way after that we chased down the marks kit that uses a bolss adaptor, basically much easier and no extrnal work needs to be done although they tend to be very hard to deal with and any problems are your problem not theresRoeDao wrote:Dellow only make part of what you need... i was originally going to buy the Dellow kit.... turned out i was far better off getting the Marks kit.... as for the marks kits not aligning, I have alse had people tell me they have had problems with dellows as well, picked up a troopy with a 454 for a mate and the bloke is right into ski racing and muscle cars, reckons the only kit he would buy is the marks ones as him and his mates had heaps of issues with the dellows ones, although they do tend to be easier to get hold of and happier to help

What about a sump........ you wil need a HQ-WB sump, oil pickup,
dipstick and dipstick tube. Try barsby agian mabye?
I used a VR V8 intank fuel pump, but my GQ had a RB30 to start with and had a low pressure pump in the tank already. I just swaped it for a high pressure pump and upgraded all the fuel line to high pressure line.

Sumps from any of the COMMODORE motors all are forward sumps.... and provide far less diff clearance for an offroad used vehicle.
I have just put a commodore 5 litre in another of my patrols and i used the front sump... but its a tow rig so i dont have to worry about the diff hitting it.
What you need is a rear sump, and the oil pickup and you can use the same dipstick if you want. They are in the early HOLDEN V8s.... Red motors and Blue motors.... HJ holden, HG Holden, WB holden.....
as soon as you go to the VB commore and onwards they are all front sumps... which you can use... but you will have front diff clearance issues.

yep if its torana 253 it will fit. as long as its a rear sump it will fit. and as long as you got the oil pickup with it.
honestly though... there is room for the front sump as well, just depends on how high you end up mounting the motor. but you definatly have more clearance for a rear sump... any lifted rig wont effect it either way.
