Engine Swap - 2H into 3B Shorty 40
I've got a 60 series with a 2H diseasel in it, and I'm looking at putting it into my 40 Shorty which currently has a 3B diseasel in it.
Can anyone tell me if this is a straight forward swap, or am I going to need to cut engine mounts and so forth?
Cheers

Not 100% sure whether your g-box will bolt to the back of the 2H, that’s a question maybe someone else can answer. You will need to weld in new mounts, and you might have to adjust your radiator forward. I put a 2H in mine, but i also put the 60 series g-box in there.
Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
Thanks guys, yes the exhaust is on the opposite side, as is the Starter motor and other ancillaries.
I've got a complete 60, so the box and transfer were going to go with it, just for ease, but I was unsure on the mounts.
Having to reweld the mounts is a pain, if it was a straight swap, I was keen to do it, but I might wait until I've got all the bits for the V8 conversion, and do the mods once.
Cheers

Yeah, I know what your saying Dave. It was just that the 2H is sitting in the 60 doing nothing and in top condition, and the 3B blows more smoke than a bunch of teenage boys on hooter.
Thought it might have been worth it for the short term. I've got 3 shorty's and am working on the chassis of one to do the build up from there. figuring that there is quite a few months before I've got the chassis ready to take the body off the one I am driving now.
Anyway, sounds like to much work involved and will take me away from the project one at the moment.
Thanks for all replies,
Cheers

Hi there
Hi there
I have just finished a conversion of a 2h diesel into a BJ 73, again its not a race car but lots of torque (great off road).
Yes nearly everything electrical & mechanical is on the oposite side, starter motor, alternator Aircond compressor and even the clutch slave cylinder. You will have to move the engine mounts (not a major problem)
I has simular delimer as you but the wife blew my old 3b up - and i bought a very cheap 60 series wagon for about 1/4 of the price of another second hand 3b engine.
I used the gear box out of the 60 series as the 3b gearbox has a longer input shaft and longer bell housing - this created other problems as the 60 series gear box had an overdive (splits 1- 2 - 3 - 4 -5 gear) and push button 4x4 instead of the manual lever selector. Again this wasnt all that difficlult to put in as toyota used this gear box in some MWB's and the wirring was already in the vehicle.
I wish you well with your project - if you were to ask me would I do it again somedays I would say yes and other no.
Best of luck
Wayne
