1990 factory Turbo Diesel Cruiser (Auto) no mods Vs GQ Turbo.

Why? Just Curious.

Variables. Well at which instances is the Patrol faster and same for 80 series

 So far Nissans are faster in the Nissan section and Toyota is faster in the Toyota section. So far I believe the Toyota section because an example was given.

Any real life examples all things being equal.

Given this analogy the Ferrari is slower than the Commodore because we sell many more of them.

By example I mean have you driven beside your mates and both planted the foot.

Blackmav I'm not talking about boys playing in the dirt in their modified toys. I am talking about on the road.

It is pretty clear that Nissans have stronger diffs, and manual gear boxes and chassis than the Cruiser and it is cheaper because more people prefer to buy the Cruiser because it is faster and more comfortable to drive and better on fuel.

Because Patrols are cheaper more 4wders buy the GQ so they can play in the dirt and are more likely to do better in the OBC.

The Cruiser holds the record by far for the motor to last the longest compared to the Patrol.

Only really been in one and driven 80s, was fairly recent model so it would have had the 1hdt? in it. Definatly put you back in the seat, but have also been in a number of quick gq's as well since then.
Mine has run up to 14psi non intercooled on 35s, goes well enough and obviously would go better with 31s.

ok
i have owned two 80 series turbos one was multi valve , and two nissan gu ,one 3lt turbo( it was shit) and one gu 4.2 turbo, having done over 1000,000km over the 4 cars. I am now a nissan man in the 4.2 but have to say the 80 series turbo is quicker. and yes they were all factory units and running 285/75/16 bfg.

Pity you cant get the 100 in a solid front end but thats another story.

Thanks everyone that participated it seems conclusive now that the Cruiser turbo diesel is faster than the Patrol Turbo Diesel.

Cheers

Ok since we are talking on road.
From what I have seen and heard the Motor in the 80series is pretty good. Much more hi-tech than the patrol.
I think the 80series would be faster on road. Even looking at the stats on paper it is easy to see. It produces good KW and Nm's compared to what Nissan offers. And still does to this day.
The Nissan motors are either small and over stressed or just old tech heavy POS.
Its the same with the factory NA motors. The Toy goes faster (if you can call slow POS fast). Oh and My dads NA 80series was only a touch slower than my SWB GQ, and the shorty was a couple of kilos lighter.
Only thing I dont like about the 80series for general dutys is they feel vague to drive. Not as direct as the GQ. And not a fan of the driving position.
Now as for aftermarket turbos for nissans yes they can be made to go fast. Drove a mates GU ute during the OBC and it went very well.

Hope thats a better answer than some of the other crap.

Neither are race cars, and both are restricted by the fact that in most cases 100 km/h is the top speed so really who cares. If you want a go fast car then get a car

standard 80 series turbo diesel versus standard gq 4.2 turbo diesel its like the tortoise and hare, the 80 pulls like a train and would eat any standard gq but the gq is a lot more reliable its horses for courses i suppose but 80's go lots better

Ok looking at the list above with the limited knowledge I have of the cars. Out of that list the cars I know that are running factory motors are.
team 2 Kym Bolton - TD42 with mods
8 Chunks TD42
13 Miller TD42
29 Scanlon TB42
32 Cosmo std jeep
58 Alberto
18 Alan Mai not really std as it is runnin a TB45 in a GQ
30 Ossie TD42
31 Henry TB42
36 Bowman Not reall std as running TB48, but would have to be the most stock out of all the factoy motors (except running carby no EFI - this was never offered by Nissan).
65 Pethybridge 80series 4.5petrol
56 GQHOON tb42
5 redman TB42

But out that list only 2 are relatively std. Thats the Jeep and Sandys. The rest or all tinkered with big turbos and very impresive HP.

the OBC I thought wasn't entirely about speed but more about reliability, team work, a bit of luck, nvigating skills and driver ability.

Who's fastest doesn't translate into who's best in nearly every case unless you were planning on street racing them I'd imagine
