DIESEL INTO FJ 73
Got an opportunity to buy a good HZJ 75 4.2 ltr diesel off someone who is putting a chev 6.2 into his. I want to know about the compatability with my H55T g/box into my FJ 73 and any other info or experience anyone has.

Jake Ive always been a diesel man,dad was a truckie. The FJ 73 come a long and was such a bargain i couldnt resist it. Also I didnt want a troopie because their too big and I didnt want a ute or traytop because of the limitations. I dont know why Toyota didnt sell these in oz with diesels in the 1st place.I didnt want a 4 cyl diesel for long trips
Any way I ll have to fit filters , new power steering pump.Other things to think of Im not too sure about is radiator, aircon, air filter, some way of turning it off at the ignition switch.
Some ones got a 60000 klm HZJ 75 rolling chassis with motor , gear box t/case for $5000. Donor vehicle would make it easier .

Rosco, the gearbox will have different input shafts. See if you can get the tranny off the HZJ75 and it should bolt to your transfer.
The radiator will be fine as the the inlet and oulet are in the correct position. You will need to fabricate the motor mounts as they are different between the 3F and the 1HZ. The fuel shutoff solenoid should be simple enough to connect to the ignition terminal.
I'm sort of in the middle of a 1HZ swap into an FJ40 but I got bogged down by other projects

Hmmm, I don't know. Never checked it on a 3B engine, but the ones I have seen have a really long input shaft, so I doubt the 1HZ bellhousing will work. But I know you can fab anything, Rob
Dave
ROFL yeah the B series input shaft was weird cause it had heaps more splines but was way too long.....
yeah cut and weld the bellhousing
hands and mums dont count!!!
Ok will you guys stop doing piss circles on my driveway and gimme back my thread
This is the plan.Im going to look at a HZJ75 rolling chassis with motor g/box diffs powersteering suspension and a heap of other stuff . Its a 93 and the current owner has had it since the rollover and guarantees its only done 55000klm. He is a cruiser head and owns several and planned a rebuild but never got around to it .
I think this is the best way to go about it as I need the suspension and power steering anyway. Its gona hurt the pocket but my old motor g/box and t/case are still good and I hope to recoup some of the money. The cost of the rolling chassis is 5000 neg. I think I have to get new mounts huh?? or can I use the ones off the donor and reweld em on to the 73.

sorry for hijacking it. I am also looking into putting a 1HD-T into my HJ75. From what I can see in the parts books, the welded on mounts to the chassis are different between the HJ and the HZJ frames. I suspect it is also the case with the FJ73. I am planning to get the chassis mounts from Toyota if I can't get them used, but having a complete rolling chassis is the less expensive way to go. I would just cut them out from the donor and weld them in.
Let me know if the HJ73 gauges and the senders work with the 1HZ. From what I can see the HZJ75 gauge cluster will not mate with my HJ75 wiring.
I can't tell you if AU$5000 is reasonable for your part of the world, but for me it surely is.
Why do you want the HZJ75 suspension?
Dave
