Just note that the green 787 is measured at 3.5 bar, so you have to have an adjustable fuel pressure reg. The 787s are shorter than earlier injectors so need a different rail.

The swirlpot is about a litre in size, it is just an oil catch can which I modified but it works well.
The TBI is a standard GM Rochester one found on just about every Chev from the mid 80's onward. This one was off a 5.7L but I swapped the injectors for ones out of a 4.3 V6. I made up an adapter out of 1/2" alloy plate to mount it to the Willpower manifold. I did this mainly because it still retains the original look with the aircleaner and if it ever plays up I can chuck on a Holley 4 barrel to get me home.
I would say without hesitation to go for the Megasquirt EFI. It's so simple to setup and even though I haven't been able to tune it on the road (My laptop's battery doesn't work), even using the basic map (estimated and by 'feel'), it is better than the carb in starting, economy and driveability. Power is down a bit at the top end but that is just a matter of putting more fuel in to the map.

i was going to run a return line, but if its not needed.

My P76 had an electric pump, just the basic goss square one, mounted under the car, so I am using that. My fuel system goes:

The return line I am using is the factory P76 one which was just a vapour return line (only 3-4mm) to stop vapourising but it works Ok with the TBI because it only works on 13psi. If I was using multi injectors I would use a far bigger line. There hasn't been any problem with heat soak, the surge tank is over a foot away from the engine anyway.
It could be made a lot better and ideally I would have liked to mount the swirlpot in the boot, but this was really just a trial to see how it all worked and I am impressed so far. I am going to transplant the system into another car so I am not too fussed on how it looks at the moment.

There's always the LR genuine parts swirlpot (AKA "Sedimentor")
Not as sexy as most but it does the job. It's advisable but not essential to put a slight restriction in the swirl pot return line (biro pen cap is a good one I've heard) to keep a little bit of pressure in there.

I did try just using the goss pump but it is only rated at 5-6psi (for a carb) and while it did run at idle, it wouldn't under load. Also, when cornering with a low (under 1/4) tank it would starve the pump and the motor would die. I even had it running with the original mechanical pump in my driveway. I think the VL pump is rated at 90psi, a bit overkill for my application but I got it cheap. I got the TBI from ebay US, it was $20 from memory. I also got the sensors from there but they are just standard GM sensors from Commodores, Carmiras etc. I have seen people use the TBI from the EA Falcon but the throttle linkage is on the wrong side and they use a different air cleaner. I'm a complete novice when it comes to injection.......
I have been looking at putting a carbed Holden 308 in my Rover and have deliberately overlooked the injected 5.0 because of the hassle and cost of adapating speed sensors, body control modules etc etc.
But, could I just connect a Megasquirt system to a basic injected 5.0 and forget about all the Holden electronics? That would save a heap of cost, both in buying the engine and installing it. If so, this would have to be ideal for engine conversions.

It would be heaps easier and better to keep the Holden efi setup. A good holden dealer will reset the BCM settings for you, a mates, mate just had it done for ~$80.00. If you want a Holden efi motor then The Holden ECU is a terrific uniit.
Have a look at the Kalmaker site for some detail.

Ms can be made to use any sensor that you have access to and you only use what you need, there are no excess inputs unless you add them your self, by the time you have the ecm modded to take out the speed/ auto sensors etc, you have spent more than triple what the MS would cost to build and install.Philip A wrote:I agree with Popeye on this.

Remember the Holden sensors are the same as the ones specified to use with the Megasquirt, after all they are GM. For my Megasquirt I used 2 Holden V6 coolant sensors, one for the coolant temp, one for the air temp (cut off the metal sensor cover). If you could find someone with the Kalmaker software you could get a Holden ECU reprogrammed as mentioned but the fun with Megasquirt is doing it yourself and learning how EFI works. For all-out simplicity, get a TBI from the US along with it's sensors and looms and ECU as they are a dime-a-dozen there and bolt it on using an adapter to your existing 4-barrel intake. I may have a megasquirt system for sale soon.
