I've done a bit of a search on this and the general consensus seems to be that the turbo off a 2.4 (CT20?) fit's on a 2.8 ok but is a bit small for that motor although it gives it a good low to mid range power increase.
Now does a non turbo 2.8 need any beefing up to take this turbo and any other mods?
It's a 1990 dual cab live axle, not SR5.
It's my bro in laws and the motors done about 285K.
He got a quote from a wreckers for $950 (2nd. hand turbo) all up including fitting, the wreckers told him they do quite a few like this without any drama's.
My bro in law wants a bit more poke for when he tows the tinny or camper trailer.
cheers, sudso

Does not need any modifying, although will shoeten the life of the motor.....that said not by a huge amount so dont worry.
Gives the 3L motor a good kick in the pants that it needs by adding the turbo.
Tell him to go for it, these bolt on turbo`s are done everyday so he has no need to worry. Just dont over boost it. Stay at 10psi for good economy and great torque and power.

i got told turbo'ing a 2.8 will increase its life expectancy- because she is burning the fuel cleaner and producing less soot, you dont foul the oil as fast and it wears less- this was from a reputable diesel workshop (Cooma diesel)
2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
Doesn't matter either way, it's gonna get turboed regardless. thomas the the tank needs a bit more puff!ferrit wrote:i got told turbo'ing a 2.8 will increase its life expectancy- because she is burning the fuel cleaner and producing less soot, you dont foul the oil as fast and it wears less- this was from a reputable diesel workshop (Cooma diesel)
