Chevy diesel
Who has got one and how noisy is it, mine has only been statically timed and appears to be quite noisy at idle like cold combustion or sumfink, its a 6.2 i'm only comparing to most other diesels 2H 1HZ TB42 etc, haven't heard other chev diesels running???

Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
Re: Chevy diesel
the one I drove the other week was very smooth and quiet, but it was only 15,000 old
how old is the donk?

130k it has cold combustion when you lean on it when cold as all diesels do but its combustion noise thats loud all the time, as in you have to raise your voice standing infront at idle, I was wondering how critical pump timing is and how a diesel is dynamically timed

Try adjusting the pump timing slightly. Mark the current position and move it a 1-2mm or each way and see what it is like. It is most likely that it will quieten down once retarded slightly.
I have seen the same thing with isuzu 4BD1 diesels. If the timing is advanced too much they are extremely noisy at idle (they go well with that timing setting though).

That is exactly what i'll be doing when time permits a little(just moved house, cut wood and crap jobs) but i'd still like to know a little more about dynamically timing themISUZUROVER wrote:Try adjusting the pump timing slightly. if it is to far advanced the injection mist groups to a liquid and does not compress as easy ( when cold wich is noise and not to good on your ings try retard by 2 degrees

They are noisy especially when cold, I've got two here in humvee's and they are both the same. The humvee's run stainless headers standard which doesn't help as cast manifolds seem to help muffle the noise a bit.
all the other ones that I've heard are noisy too.
A friend with a 6.5 in an 80 series donk is noisy as well but not as loud as the 6.2.
It is quieter when running on biodiesel though as well as being smoother.
