60 diffs under a 40 where to mount shocks

Post by pcman »

brought a set of 60 diffs premodded to bolt under my 40 but theres no shocker mounts

i was thinkin about getting some weldon mounts from one of the 4x4 joints that make em and then i can position them lower so i can run a bit longer shock

whats the normal thing to do someone said run rear spring plates and use that but thats like 6" further than stock and well i dont need shocks that long

any ideas

Well i had a thread about this a while ago with a picture of one but the picture isn't working so the link is pretty useless. the one i was showed was i think just like C section steel (prob just get box and cut one edge off|) that he had welded onto the tube. so when u look down on the mount you see the C shape. he then just drilled holes through it and mounted the shock this way. i ended up just rewelding my schock mount back together instead of making a whole new one. hope this helped :)

pcman, I'm thinking about doing this same mod. I've got a complete 60 to use for donor parts. Any chance of you taking some photo's of the diffs with the mods to them and sending them up.
Running the tape over them, the spring mount near the pumpkin looks like it has to be a slight way up the centre. Be interested to see how the mods were done.
Send to corry@corrysplace.com if possible.

Much appreciated,
Corry

coils are over rated. leaves have been on the rocks since before coils were invented, and they're still running strong

How has this been done on the front? I was going to do this on my 73 series but was told it wouldnt work successfully because the right hand spring mount would ride up the pumpkin, making it all uneven.
Could you get me some pics of what has been done.
Cheers.

theres an easy fix for this

spring it over then you can make the spring mounts even again.

All you would have to do is make the spring perch the same distance from the midline of the diff on both sides(a truss across the underside of the diff.

easy to do, but you lose alot of ground clearance.

If you spring over and put a truss over the top if the diff all you are doing is increaseing your lift :) (may mean you need a flatter spring pack).

are you going to use square ubolts over the ubolt perch thingo, or round ones over the axle tube?

Cause it looks like square ubolts will work on the spring perch hard up agains the diff centre, but obviously round ones wont. (you have round ones in the first pic, are these just temporary?)

Ok. I was looking at the 60 diffs that I have, and I cant see how they can be chopped anymore than they are. I will post a pic tomorrow.

Ok, here are some pics of standard 60 housing
Maybe there is enough room to cut it out. But I am not sure.
