If the bearing in the centre of the cardinal was worn would it make a bad clunk clunk clunk sound? Its only a clunk clunk sound with no vibration at all.
Have replace front diff, spline, remove t case and put my crawler gears into another one even thought everything looked spot on and I still have the bloody clunk Its not a cv click either, its a clunk and comes from around the cardinal t case area
This is really starting to shit me as I just can`t find it
I had the same thing in my front Cardan. Made the clunk sound when taking of from stand still. No vibes and no sound at speed. fixed it by replacing the uni's.
Took me ages to figure it out as the unis seemed pretty tight.
Been fine ever since.

the spline was replaced with a brand new one and its only done about 5000ks in the lux since then and most of those ks have been in 2wd and I never leave the hubs in.
The unis in the cardinal were replaced at the same time as the slip joint, thats why I`m thinking of the bearing thats in the centre of the cardinal as this was not done.

when did the noise start up? round the time the new splines went in
Stupid question but I'll ask it ------ have you pumped fresh grease into them ? if yes then get a nail and push the ball in on the grease nipple where the spline is and see if there is a heap of pressure/grease that streams out (check the rear tail shaft as well).
I had a clunking noise ages ago that I couldn't find, I stumbled on this by frustration and the clunk stopped instantly !
Cheers
Andrew

Just a few mods, nothing over the top.:)
When a double cardinal joint is failing, or low on grease it can make a clunking noise. Try filling it with grease, or swap to known good front shaft and see what happens.
Layto....
