tb42 compression test

Post by mudmav »

Hey guys finally got round to comp testing my shorty yesterday results are as follows

1=170
2=170
3=165
4=160
5=160
6=150

Should i be concerened is this normal, i would have thought that 170 is ok but im not so sure about the 20psi drop for number 6?

At first i thought rings but the car blows no smoke at all even under hard acceleration. Then i thought maybe the head is gone and leaking compression as i have heard a few times that number 6 is the cylinder that usually goes on these motors.

Any thoughts, tell me if this is normal and if my comp is good, bad or ok overall.

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

If it's on gas I'd be worried, on petrol it's probably just a leak in the gasket. Typically the water jacket on #6 corrodes through. I had my gasket replaced about 6 months ago.

Mine was just the gasket, I also had the head tested and redressed while it was off. My main symptom was pushing all the coolant out the overflow bottle every time I went for a drive.
