Paint for Sliders?

Hi all Just wondering whats the best paint to put on my sliders?
is chassis black ok or should i go for a std black or is there something a bit harder wearing that i could use? i dont want to have to get them powdercoated either..

Nothing you can spray on will last if being used. Even powder coating will get chipped when your dragging your arse over rocks.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

just use a spary pack, then you can reapply easy after use

yep... and the paint will be gone after 10 mins of wheeling ;) . i used the same stuff, some bits are still black... only a few :D Just spray and when it comes off dont worry about it.

should use hammer tone, that way scratches look the norm :armsup: very easy touch up too :armsup:

I've gone thru 2 hammers jsut on my doors...is there any faster way???

I just used a cheap can of tyre black on my old 'Runner, just brush it over the scratches after you've washed it, stops 'em getting rusty.

Yep l agree thats what l did my chasis with every touch up looks the same.

i use $2 cans from the local junk store, they get scratched after every serious trip, so i just clean em, then use a piece of cardboard to stop over spray and touch em up. cheap and easy

Rattle cans will do the job easy :cool:

Cheap to start with and cheap to tidy up the sliders after a trip ;)

Slight hijak..but my Mav didn't come with side steps and I think that they are a good for protecting the doors from carpark dings...

S/Steps tend to be about 150.00 down Melbourne second hand.

How much are sliders and do they make alternative side steps and would they protect the doors from getting dings. Looking for a manufacturer in the SE suburbs.

Weld them up to suit yourself, include a step. Steel side steps are often pretty strong. Set up a speed camera and you can buy them for all :D :D

I painted my sliders with cold gal (brushed on). It is an extremely tough paint - but like all coatings the rocks still beat it.

I painted my rear bar in POR15, and then with their chassis black over the top as the POR15 is not UV stabilised. Generally it has lasted pretty well, but does end up a pretty matt finish. There is a few little chips now from hitting rocks, but walking on it doesn't scratch it off like spray cans, which really are pretty ordinary. The spray can primer does seem to work very well though, just the paint won't stick to it....

This stuff is not cheap though (Approx $50 for 250mL), but does go a lot further than you would thing. It also takes a while to apply due to 24hr drying time and required about 6 coats, the more the better protection. It is a brush on paint too.

For what it's worth, I was going to try powder coating for the next items, as it yields a nicer looking finish and wasn't really any more expensive.

can't beat rust guard gloss black, can keep touching it up and prevents against rust inareas that don't get scratched, and can paint over lightly rusted surfaces!! $10 can from hardware shops
