Bloody 60

Post by Hobzee »

Had the 60 all packed and set up during the week. Thought to fire it up tonight and turn it around for an early start in the morning - Starter Mtr had the Richard. 11pm Friday night before an event - DOH! Wife said I could take the Honda MDX as it has diff locks. Sweeeet!

I have 2 different start motors in the shed for 60 petrol and you guessed it, none the same as what I have and they dont bolt up.

Bummer - 60 has the radio gear, car kit for CDMA and needed to be used to get into check points and maybe the odd bit of recovery. Looks like I will be taking MDX as far as camp then botting a lift.

Very Cheap 60 piece of crap for sale.... What good is it if it don't work when you need it to work.

I've got some photos from the climb out of Deep Creek 2.

http://members.ii.net/~cmcd/pursuit/pursuit.html

Fuji S5500, full auto, multi-shot. There's a few in there that are smaller for some reason - dunno why. I have got the full size images though.

If you want a full size photo, let me know and I'll email it out (between 1.5 & 2mb)

Luxy's got some video too, which he's working on. If everyone hassles him it might encourage him to get onto it quicker.. ;)

Kept my eyes out for Gut's lux... Where abouts in Traralgon did you end up staying?

Good to see some of the tracks that we drive from time to time used in a comp situation... Will keep my eyes out for the DVD.

Left at Lunch time yesterday.
Jamie GQMad, seized the diesel in his Mighty Boy style GU SWB Ute.

Kj's have the crank scrapping the sump for a good look.

Two Gu's had front diff problems.

80Ute Wally winched out the tree that stabilises ythe track on Morning Star. You had to see it to belive what happened, Rob his team mate broke the transfer in the Supercharged V6 Hilux.

Lots of other carnage incluiding my Long CV. Most peoples tents were frozen due to snow and ice.

Ruffy ran out of diesel as well as Paul on a stage. Ha Ha, lots of recovery work.

The Pirahna Pursuit was wicked, I had an absolute blast as Navi for Ruffy! Ruffy's 60 was an absolute weapon, drove some pretty tuff terrain and showed you can have a crack at these events in an older truck and do very well. Unfortunately due to the steep angle on SS3 the old girl sucked air instead of fuel and that killed our SS3, but other than that little hicup the old 60 had balls of steel and suprised the hell out of me (and maybe a few others) at how tough and capable it was.
The tracks were a really good mix and made you really get your nav correct.

Plus it was catered so when we got back from each run we got a full feed, last night was a roast with vegies and the whole bit. Bacon and egg sangas for breaky, man what more could you ask for!

Well done to Hobzee and Rudi on a brilliant event, you guys run a really excellent event!

I better go and get on the plane back to Sydney!

Looking forward to doing it again next year!

Holy crap  team lost got 2nd

Team effort from Wayne, Arron (sp?) and Matt and myself

Gotta say the lux loved it.
List of things that need fixing are
front and rear tail shafts, but these needed fixing before event started.
front shocks stuffed, also not 100% before event
clutch slipped afew times over the weekend.
steering arms were very loose and needed tightening before driving home.

Don`t think wayne did anothing serious either so all in all both rigs did very well and came home with no real dramas :D

Well run event had a ball.
Well done to rudy, hobbze and all others invloved

I`ll be back next year for certain

Mate that was an awesome comp

And just for the record we didn't run out of fuel either just a really steep angle that the fuel pickup didn't like

Either way 4th Place is fantastic for our first comp

Thanks to Rudi and the gang for a great fun time. :D

All showered and fed and watered again..mmmmmmmm shower was good!.. Navi should be back in Sydney by now.. Thanks Beretta you're a champ!

I've got a couple of stoved in rear quarters, busted wheel studs, A busted window, and blah blah blah.. but really the 60 loved it.. so much so that it wanted to go for a night drive this morning at 2.00 am but noone else was up for it. Pack of girls :P

Man i'm still pumped. great bunch of guys, was good to meet a few off here to.

Personally i thought the observation items were a little "Tricky and cryptic" considering we were told they wouldn't be. I thought it would be more about the driving and less about looking for things stuck to trees. Something more simple just to prove you got there would have been good and maybe a couple more special stages. just putting feelers out for thoughts, not canning the boys at all.

I think i learnt more from that weekend and gained more confidence in both myself and the car than anything else i've done before. That was great. Almost inspired me to navnite in a fortnight.. but alas i cannot.

By the way... Drafty DID NOT power nap... I tried to keep up with Andy and Peter but those coil over are alot more forgiving on the wash aways than me leaf springs

Also when we arrived back at camp at 2.00am sunday morning and seen snow on our swags i thought it clever to check the temp with the thermometer on my phone....... - 4 degrees.. brrrrrrrrrrrrr..

Congratulations to the Ontrack team and to all that competed.

Thanks Hobzee and Rudi, the event was well organised.

I sympathise with my team mate Jamie after his engine blew up in Deep Creek 5. He stayed positive throughout the ordeal which was great to see. We continued on solo for the rest of Saturday. My brother did well to navigate even though it was his first event and his first time to operate a gps. We ran out of fuel by Saturday night which surprised me, so it was over for us. We'll be back again next year to give it a better crack.

Thanks Lockee for giving us a hand with the rear shocks

Got a powernap after we returned to camp near the fire, kept on getting woken up by some nut wanting to go for a drive at 2 in the morning so went to my swag.

Was a great event, with some funny characters there making it very enjoyable, the SS's were real fun, certainly got the adrenalin pumping.

A big thanks to Hobzy and Rudi, all the marshals and the cook and helpers.

Have some photos from before and after the comp but dont know how to put them up, seems the attachment section is missing.
Joe.

We went up to spectate this year (car was not battle ready) and check out how the comp ran, what a blast.
Well done to the top place setters and to all that finished as well to the ones that didn't (good on ya for giving it heaps)
We set up camp on Morningstar trk, just up from the special stage (we had the fire going that kept everyone warm)and it was worth the wait just to see & hear the Ontrack boys have a go, MAN do they give there beasts a caning   they really put on a great show and the way the navies worked together on each car when winching was awesome.
Next up was Ruffy & PatrolPaul and they both had drama's with fuel starvation on the steep cross climb but I was impressed with the winch effort Ruffy  , no motor running at all and winching all the way to the top  (what batteries you running cos I'm getting 'em).
Next up was Wally in the 80ute BEAST (this beast sounds wicked) and it was honking too, we missed the climb out but we saw the end result. Wally was stuck big time, the massive log that they had to climb/winch over had come free of the track, wedged hard under the 80ute and ended up on a bad angle with the roof leaning on a tree  (I hope there's not too much damage there), then Wally was winching out and the winch motor siezed or burnt out ! A new motor was put in and he was out of trouble But his team mate broke the tranfer case in the tough sas'd Hilux (man thats a clean ute:cool: ).
This stage was called off due to the dislodged tree  so we all went off to bed, I think it was 2.00 am by then.TOP FUN.
Sunday we packed up camp and headed off to check out some of the tracks then we headed to Burt camp trk to set up a camp spot right at the steep little climb out of the creek section (we were the ones with the fire going  ) and we had a grouse veiw point here, we could hear from ages away, see most of the creek run and we could see most of the climb up (Awesome).
We will definately be competing next year as it looked like everyone was having a ball.
Well done Rudi, Hobzee & crew
Cheers
Andrew

Just out of interest we used approx 140lts of fuel  just for the event, thats without the 180lts of fuel to get there and home again

Well done to the green boyes  Only got us by 60 points, we should have tried to find the 4 questions that we didn`t even look for  Owell we will just have to try again next year

Wonder who that was??

Nothing wrong with a power nap, I had one while we were coming down Burgoynes (I think?), kept getting woken up by the tree branches slapping the A pillar! It was okay all Ruffy had to do was make a righty at the end and go back to camp :D .

Firstly HG.. Sorry for the sideways past your camp thing.. i was in a hurry to get fuel to Pauls patrol
Secondly you're the tenth person wanting to know what batteries i'm running.. And it's a secret.. bwahahahahaha.

Guts  140 litres of fuel.. I used that on the first day :?
