Hi John,

TomTom sell both navigation hardware as well as software.

For the O2 Exec, just need to get a copy of Tomtom 5.21 Software, and the Australian Map. Bt 338 is just the bluthtooth (which is wireless, but not Wi-fi...Wifi is something else)

Tomtom is a street level navigator with voice navigation....it tells you the directions while your driving....and the Bt 338 is extremely acurate....and the great thing about the Bt 338 is that you can put it anywhere in the Truck (in the glovebox, under the chair) and it will still pick up signal no problem....its surf III...high tech stuff.

Then for real off roading use oziexplorerCE edition ..... works fantastically on the exec.

Note: the O2 Xda Exec is just the O2 release name. The PDA is actually made by a company in Taiwan called HTC ..... the unbranded name for it is the HTC Universal. HTC produces it for Vodfone europe, Imate (JasJar), Qtec...and a few others. The only difference between them is the color and software....all the internals and features are identical.

So you can buy any of them....usually the )2 release is the most expensive because of the color used and in countries where you actually get warrenty cover...o2 are pretty good (we dont get cover here) and Imate is a joke for warrenty cover.

Just make sure the one you buy is unlocked.

Good luck

We trialled an ipaq and something else at work (can't remember sorry) with the built in gps and found the accuracy to be poor at best on both :) We're talking 15 metres in good conditions and a real need for fairly good conditions generally to get any kind of reasonable location from it

may or may not be suitable for some but not really good enough for our field crews and the kind of work they do

ok the story so far is .....I bought a Bluetooth GPS off EBAY its really small!!!
Yes with the latest so called chipset srf111 got oziexplorer bought a billiton bluetooth usb for the laptop and plugged it all in bought a cd of the local area (OTways) and hey presto one very nice GPS system.
Next step is to get a PDA as althought the laptop is great its slightly too big.
So recapping it works perfectly rain slush bush its great....
Oh you have to be a rocket scientist to fully understand mapping and the s/ware but the point and shoot approach works well too...

PDA CLOSURE

Post by bushpig59 »

Hi Guys n Girls Just a quick note on what's been happening..
I got from EBAY a HP iPAQ Pocket PC 4150 and a bluetooth gps sat rx load with ozi explorer and destinator a little bit to set up not hard but if you have not done it before can get a little tedious.
WORKS REALLY WELL ON ALL BUSH TRACKS and STREETS

A BIG THANK YOU FOR THE HELP AND ADVICE
Cheers
