When you say blown - wat actually happened to it, and how many k's???
The 3.8 is a fairly common conversion, good low torque, smooth down low, gives you acceptable economy and its a fairly cheap conversion - depending on how severe your 3.5 is though, you may find they both cost you a simular amount to do, one you stay genuine and original, the other is after market, custom and like scott said could impact the ability to sell, and the amount.

I think you'll find all those links are for a 3.8l into earlier model Pajs, NOT Gen11.
Comm 3.8l into Gen11 would be interesting though, there are just so many power mods available for the 3.8l.
Good luck with whatever you do
cheers

first time I have used this forum and got to say I am impressed.
I am pulling out the motor this weekend to have a look see but it has one of those nasty knocks in the bottom end which sounds really bad and the sudden loss of all the oil doesn't help.
Ben I will keep you in mind and let you know by mid week.
The 3.5 magna motor also sounds good.
unfortunately mitsubuishi has been left out in the cold as far as conversion kits are concerned the only kits are for pre 88.
Keep the info comming its been a great help will keep you upto date with the progress.

I blew my 3.5 dohc recently and had a full reco done on it for around 2500
it was the labour to pull it out and put it back plus some other parts i replaced at the same time that were the dearest part if i were you I would rebuild it and keep it original. If you want to drive the motor to sydney I can give you the guys name at least this way you get full warranty if anything goes bang again. My opinion anyway.

Well its out after much pain and suffering.
After pulling the inlet manifold off it all became clear the 2 butterflies had come of dropped down the air intake and where bashing on the top of the valves fortunately there is little damage but I had to take the heads off to retrieve the screws. Bore is good and fortunately everthing else looks OK. Does anybody know a good place to get a gasket kit the best price I got was $330 or $720 for a full rebuild thought I might as well do rings bearing etc while its pulled down.

exactly the same as what happened to mine but but bent valves and smashed 2 pistons in mine what are you ging to do about replacing the butterflies? I replaced whole upper plenium chaber $720 mitsubishi genuine part apparently a common prob so be careful with second hand as it may cost alot more if it happens again.
