Warn 8000 Pound Winch Question

In the manual it says you can only fit 30m of cable @ 8mm which i have at the moment but in wire cable. Im planning on buying some plasma out of the US, and i can get 100 foot (30m) for $214 delivered of 5/16", but i can get 125 foot (38m) for $249 delivered of 5/16" and 5/16" = 7.9375mm,

so pretty much the question is,

am i able to put 38m of 7.9375mm plasma rope on a WARN 8000 pound winch?

is that just a "yeh should be able to" or a "yeh should be right" or have you guys got more than 30m on your 8000 pound warn winch? iv got 30m of wire cable at the moment and im pretty sure there room for more, i guess it depends on the bar its in and the room, but have people got more than 30m on a m8000 winch? is there any reason not run more? just checking before i buy, for $30 im thinking of getting the extra, in aus that would get you like 2.5m

Well the 45m of 8mm wire on mine seems to fit nicely

champion cloughy, thanks heaps, so whats that, just under 150 foot, 150 foot = something like 45.5m, will cost about $275 for 150 foot....perhaps that then....maybe just 125 foot, ill wait and see, thanks heaps though

It will fit well enough but the winch will be working a lot harder when the extra 15mts gets spooled on.
I'd check with Warn to make sure the motor will handle it, remember the more cable that gets wound on the faster the truck will be pulled and more load gets put on the winch motor.
I think these M8000's get close to their working limit with 30mts of cable. Would certainly be in the case of a full winch up a steep incline.

As for putting Plasma rope on low mounts I've heard it's not ideal as the drums get really hot and may shorten the life of the rope but the high mount drums are separate so they dont get as hot.

I thought about getting a longer cable or Plasma rope for my M8000 too but just got a 30 and a 50mt winch extension strap instead. Was under a $100 all up.

Not trying to say "do as I" but it might pay to check into it more before potentially wasting $ or potential damage and more $.

Sudso is right about the motor working a bit harder when you get the extra on. The other thing to watch for is if you have to pull at an angle. The rope will bunch up on the drum on one side and therefore contact the bracing rods or the mounting points quicker. Having said all of this if it is too long you just cut the rope to the length that you want and splice the rest and use it as an extension rope. The added benefit of doing this is if you have to replace a length of cable on your winch you can use the extension rope

Use a snatch block if it struggles, the benifits of more cable on the drum far outway negatives, mine pulls just fine with 45m and where not talking comp. use here, just playing in the shit

yeh were not talking comp style winching here, just muckin round and when you get into sticky situation using the winch. As far as heat, winchline have a rope called 'fireline' thats designed for lowmounts because of its heat properties and so forth, and all of their lines come with a 10 foot protective, UV and heat, covering anyway and im sure you could make your own extension of this if needed, but yeh, im thinking the 125 foot rope will be better, the 150 foot rope just doesnt do it for me i think, thanks heaps guys

yeh its very cheap, noting that it is 5/16" and not 3/8" though, theres a bit oif difference but its not massive, theres a few places that people have mentioned on here, and one was www.winchline.com and i started there and ended up at you know where, ......

yeh theres a few companies on ebay.com, USA ebay, that are selling the winchline rope for pretty cheap prices, they come complete with crushproof thimbles and excel HD hook all spliced and what not ready to roll willing to ship to AUS for anywehre between $12-$16 US, ($16-$21 AUS),

some of the companies on ebay include Master Pull and theres a few industrial and recovery equipment stores to look at too
