80 series 4.5L head gasket replacement

Post by Stackson45 »

Just blew the head gasket in the 80 - leaking between the water and cylinder, no water in oil but steam out exhaust, water system pressurised blowing out of overflow - once when i stopped to top up it hydraulic-locked - so take plug out and turn over to remove water.

Firstly - can an improperly tuned gas setup cause this?? i don't think so, but as gas was put on end last year and had lot's of problems (ongoing) i want to keep that in mind.

Secondly - who has replaced and anything i should be aware of?

Thirdly - i read a while ago about valve stem probs or something similar when running gas - i should get this done while the heads of??

I searched for head gasket 80 series and got nuttin.

Cheers
Rob

hi its probly not the gas unless the water system is leaking in the converter. as for the gasket. ive been told they have stretch bolts in the head so you have to replace them too i was quoted about 700 for gaskets and bolts ect.as for the probs youve been having with the gas deos it stall heaps and lerch back and forth when driving if so do you run a snorkle . they cause heaps of chaos with the air/fuel mixtures especially at high speed. if so try disconnecting your snorkle from the air box and see if it fixes probs hope this helps abit wayne
