Staun beadlocks
Who's got 'em and what do you think of them, preferably if you've ran both these and mechanical beadlocks before
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
I've run these for 2 years now and once I got around the initial crap of working out just what you have to do with them I haven't had any problem since. You'll find that the people that have had trouble with them or don't like them have never set them up properly from the start. If you do this you they are far more user friendly than mechanical beadlocks as you can almost treat your tires and rims like normal ones. The other benefit is that you get to lock both beads instead of just one.

Mate, If you are tossing up between the two, I would go the mechanicals any day of the week. Im sure you will get mixed opinions on here, but at the end of the day, I would steer clear of internals as IMHO they are junk. The reason for wanting bead locks in the first place is so you can run lower pressures and not pop the bead off the rim, but with internals, a slight knock sideways (dropping into a rut) can put crud into your bead like you had no locks at all. Mechanicals have been proven time and time again, but with the only downside is they are visable to Mr Plod.
" Some days you are the bug; some days you are the wind screen"
If you use the correct rim and tire combination you won't get this as the beadlock is taller than the bead and if fitted correctly and you run the correct combo then the beadlock will hold the tire against the edge of the rim and prevent it from rolling in. You also need to run the correct pressures in the beadlocks. There is one more thing. Wouldn't this happen to the majority of mechanical beadlocked rims as well? Most of them only run an outer locking ring.Jeff80 wrote:Mate, If you are tossing up between the two, I would go the mechanicals any day of the week. I'm going to be using them with either 35x10.5 simex which i currently have or 36x12.5 which i may be getting at the right price on 15x8 hurricane alloy rims (when i get 'em
) or am i better just sticking with tubes that i already have

agree, if set up well and with a decent rim that is not going to bend like a speedy then they are very good, dont look as bling as a SS beadlock ring thoughtoughnut wrote:If you use the correct rim and tire combination you won't get this as the beadlock is taller than the bead and if fitted correctly and you run the correct combo then the beadlock will hold the tire against the edge of the rim and prevent it from rolling in. If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
This would depend on how low you are planning on running tire pressures and your type of driving. In the dry you could run a tire down to between 15 and 20 psi depending on the horsepower you are putting through them but in the wet the tires will just slip off the bead. This is only from my experience with my GU patrol and Baja Claws. Not sure how the Simex would react.cloughy wrote:I'm going to be using them with either 35x10.5 simex which i currently have or 36x12.5 which i may be getting at the right price on 15x8 hurricane alloy rims (when i get 'em) or am i better just sticking with tubes that i already have

internal beadlocks suck..........
Yes they have been set up properly.....
Yes they have been run at correct pressures.....
Yes, the tyres were at 4wd pressures......
Yes crap always gets in the beads and punctures the inner bead, when you dont know, and needs to be stripped and fixed after it has worn grooves inside your tyres from rubbing while running deflated......
Yes, they are slower to let down the more pressure you want out on the earlier models......
Yes, I have gone back to mechanical beadlocks......

Once I got rid of the sunrasiers and got some strengthend bead rims I've had absolutely no problems. Just need to get Silverstone to get off their butts and build more sizes for their 117 extreems
