Jaycar Speedo Corrector
Hi All,
I am tryingto find out how many people use this to correct the speedo after changing tyres / diffs.
I have built one for a GQ Patrol and have not got it working yet. I have not found any information on the net about setting this unit up for a particular vehicle. If everyone who has used one can put up the details for the resistor placing and the link states.
ie. R1 or R2 and LK2 LK3 at position X or Y
Then when other people are looking it will be easier to find.

I did this to my 1997 Rodeo

It works great and for about $50 all up it is fantastic value compared to the off the shelf versions.
I did all the testing of the unit (to find the info needed for the links) in my driveway with the rear on chassis stands.

Small Tip for GQ and possibly GU Patrols
For Interest sake - The GQ patrol is set up with no resisor in R1 or R2 and Lk2 & LK3 at position Y. But there is a catch.....
There is a small modification for the speedo corrector to allow anyone with a GQ patrol to use this on the speedo corrector. If this works on other vehicles as well please post what they are.
According to siliconchip.com.au (the designer of the kit)

I will be trying this soon and will post results.Connect a 100uF capacitor to the output of the speedometer corrector. The plus side connects to the speedometer correctors output and the - side to the speedometer. A a 1k ohm resistor connects from the - side of the capacitor to ground. This gives the required AC signal for your speedometer.

Anybody use one of the correctors in the previous model Hilux??
I gave up after much fiddling around. Corrector still sitting on the lounge table!
I'd like the option of a DPDT switch that I can flick and run my standard 31s, then flick to the corrector and use my 33s.
Cheers

V6XtraHilux,
Did you run through the proceedure 1 & 2. What did you work out as the input type?
Where did you have LK2 and LK3 and R1 R2?

speedo correction device
g'day all,
Ive fitted a Marks Adaptors Variable Ratio Box, that allows you to adjust settings for two tyres so that you can ran your road tyres on setting A and your offroad tyres on setting B, and toggle between them at the flick of a switch. It cost me $165- comes with instructions how to fit (very easy) and a whole chart of ratios and settings to suit your needs.

mmaaxx,
In my opinion having two selectable ratios is not enough flexibility. The Patrol we are installing this in has 4 sets of different sized tyres that are frequently used. I have modified the jaycar box to be externally switchable via push button BCD counters and a small switch for faster / slower. This gives us an infinite number of settings and only takes a second or two to change.
Having to reset the marks adaptor box every time a different set of tyres is used could be a pain in the A##. Especially if it is mounted behind the dash as we are putting the Jaycar unit.

Finally Working (Simple Really)
Following my earlier post about the speedo reaching 80 then dropping to zero there is a really simple fix (took me ages to stop looking for an indepth problem and try something simple) I found the solution.
Even though the instructions disagree add in the 1K resistor to ground on the input signal. This will give full range of operation and enable the box to work.
