Suzuki Space Saving Ideas??

Going away next week and the hubby wants to take the Zook. Unfortunately I think his forgot about how we can fit the 2 kids in too as well as all our stuff. Has any one got any great ideas about utelising the space in a Zook without having to fold up the backs seats. We dont want to tow so we would appreciate any space saving ideas. Our Zook is a soft top so the roof rack is outa the question, although I've seen those roof carriers that look simular to the outa roll bar. Has any one got one of those and where do you get one?

roof racks, and trailers arethe only real way to get storage for a sierra unfortunately.

If you can fold thie kids up for the trip there and back you might save some space

I've seen a few busses with bags hanging on the back door, like a bum bag for a bus.
From kmart and anaconda you can get roof rack bags for $70 - $90
these can hang on the door, from the roof or whatever.
When I travelled with my mrs(ex) we used a occy strap type netting on the inside of the roof, for all light stuff like clothes and bedding.

I had friends with kids and Mokes, they got a Moke each, with a kid each in both cars, thats how they managed....hint hint by another zook

Gutless is on the money, a trailer is about the only thing that'll work.

But I hope you're not going to be in a hurry, as a zook with 4 people in it, towing a trailer isn't going to be breaking any land speed records. On the up side, you should be pretty safe from speed cameras etc

Now Simmo, I'm da wife, I'm the one who posted the question. Getting rid of me means the car goes too. The car is mine. I'm da driva. Maybe I need to get rid of the hubby as some of you think I should drag him along on da tow. As for getting a new one???? does not solve the space problem...

pop each of those pesky kids into a space saver bag, and wear disposable clothes.

seriously, the best idea i can think of is a 'cooler rack' as the septics call them. you can design it to hang off your spare tyre carrier, or from your towbar.

It would be bad karma hanging something like that off the tailgate. If you were to do something like that you'd really want a swing out tyre carrier of some description.

agreed. I have a tintop so not such an issue. i forgot how weak those soft-top tailgates are..

Space bags, micro-pac sleeping bags, fit a flat water tank in the rear floorspace, use a smaller fridge or esky (take more dry/non perisable stuff).

Attend a Suzuki 4WD Club NSW event....any event....and watch the expert 'Zook Packers' in action

- we had a guy literally pack the contents of a patrol into a Jimny.....fark!

Yeh i was thinkin about those space bags, i wonder how much one of those cheap mattress inflators could pull the air out of one. That would save a lot of space.

Put clothes, blankets, pillows in a space bag. They can get really flat, and you can put heaps in them. They can then kind of sit up at the back of the front or rear seats. if you have the foldup camping chairs in the bag put them behind the back seats and then put the space bags on top of them. What are you taking and for how long are you going? We used to go camping for a week end and put everthing in our zook so we were self contained. But we couldn't take kids though.

This time we are taking the two kids so thats four of us and we are staying in a self contained unit so all we really need to take is our clothing and the fishing rods. But we like to go camping and we have in the past in our Tarago but now we have got into 4x4 we really want to take the Zook but now we have a problem with fitting everything in. Camping we would have to take the trailer but I feel it would be a stuggle. Found a half of a Zook as a trailer on Ebay and thought it was grouse but Hubby said NO! The big blue trailer following a small grey Zook would look stupid.

Just on the space bags you used to be able to get "travel" space bags that had like a valve in one end. They worked by putting the clothes in then rolling them in the bag to force the air out the valve end.
No vacumm needed.

i found that when i go camping i pack my gear in smaller bags so they can be stuffed into smaller places. fill up under the seats with clothes, remove the rear trim panels and you will be suprised what ya can stuff in them. The biggest problem would be the Esky.

ON another note i have thought of making a removable drop toolbox like on tray utes that mounts under the car below the front seats. you would only use them to go camping and take them off when ya get there.
Would work on a lifted sierra but wouldn't be very big

I am piglets other half .......We did the trip and found exactly as built4thrashing mentioned the rear and back panels have some cavities and thats were the tyre iron and cans of spray and flouro 12 v light and a heap of other small goodies were placed. Was able to hide enough crap in the quarter panels to relieve the pressure in the main areas....
If I was too do it again but going camping I will tow a trailer but dont expect the 11 L/100 K's and no 5th gear ever and no 110Kph...
