The only physical way is to know what the splines look like on the input....3f and 1hz run different splines to the 151, which has a larger, finer spline petrol or diesel....the best way to tell is to do a ratio check as first gear is 4.5 with the h150 and 4.1 with the h151...the part timer has a short rear end, and no electric 4wd bizzo, they both run a lever, but the part time, has 3 positions, the full time, 2.

SORRY TO HIJACK , but I have a early 1989 62 series 5 speed povo pack, what gearbox does this run and how much drama is involved in swapping the 3f for a 1hz?

cheers

Agree with Andrew. If the gearbox is in a vehicle or still coupled to the engine, 3FE and 1HZ engines are usually mated to an H150 in the 80. Factory turbo diesels and 1FZFE's are mated to an H151 in the 80 series, H150 in the 75/78 series.
