OK HAD ENOUGH Part 2
Hi all, ok had a wheel alighnment this morning, done by Pro-Axle, no bent diff housing on the front end of the hilux, so has to be an internal problem. What do you think should be the next step taken, eg new spindle bush etc, spoke to a few 4wd specialist and they said strip down do again, was told by a mate that there is special tool to alighn axle dead centre but every where I rang does not have this type of tool so that the shims can be adjusted spot on, most said just do it by eye or some even said that even if the shims are out it's not enough to cause the oil leak, want to do this write so I dont have to pull down again, do I just bite the bullet and get a complete new spindle from ebay $110 including bronze spindle bush or is there some thing else I need to do first. Any help will be greatly appreciated on this matter cause I dont want to have to pull apart again for a looooong time 3 times in the last 6 months is enough thankyou coming up for the 4th. Most cruiser axles I have taken apart have had equal or almost equal thicknesses and number of shims on top and bottom, but there are a few that don't. An easier and perhaps cheaper way is to get another swivel housing from the wrecker and be sure they leave the shims in the correct order.

Thought of doing that but then could be in the same vote again so would rather get this one write then I know, but if worse comes to worse and for some reason I am unable to get it write then that could be another option, hopefully I will fix it right once and for all, Thanks pongo. Hi there Hamo, yeah rang windsor toyota today in sydney they WAIT FOR IT $900 to do the job on the drivers side, what a fuc@n joke, had the wheel alighnment done on saturday the diff is not bent so have been told now to pull the axle out and get sent away to make sure its not bent, which they doubt it would be, mainly the passengers side apparently that bends normally as its the longest of the 2. So once I get that looked at and if thats ok then I will be looking at the shims and go from there At the moment I feel like putting a match under the fricken thing starting to piss me off and such a mongrel job to do, eg grease and crap . How much does it leak? I know mine will let a little bit leak every now and then after its been in 4x4. Is only enough to make you look at it.
Ok now you say its leaking oil, this means it has to come past the inner axle seal. Then it would run down the swivel bell inside the swivel housing out the felt seals around the swivel. It doesn`t go past any bronze bearing as it is in the swivel and runs on the stub axle of the cv and on the out side of the inner axle seal. Or am I forgetting a bit
Only things I can think of is,
a BAD run of inner axle seals, I know I`ve had bad luck with them before.
a bad oil seal seat surface on the axle.
bent housing.
damaging the seal as you put it or the axle in, yes even mechanic mates can do this.
Are all the C clips still on the inside and outside of the cv?
