Landcruiser Bypass Hose

I own a 75 series landcruiser and iam looking to find out any info on these bypass hoses for the gearbox....

What do they do?

Are they a good idea and are they hard to set up?

i have a feeling that your talking about the hose on the filler plugs from the t-case to the gearbox?

if so people do this (instead of replacing the seal between both boxes) so that the oil doesnt fill the t-case and leave the gearbox low..

its a easy but dodgy way to fix a common problem.

id like to know how the oil level from a low point [on the transfer ]can run up a tube to a higher point [ the filler plug on the gbox ]

I dont know much about gearboxes so i dont know if the seal is working or not.Ive never serviced the gearbox but iam about to do a service on all filters and oils and i wanted to know if fitting one of these hoses adds any benifit to the gearbox at all.
Its a 92 model thats about to clock over 300k and ive just had a major overhaul on the front end including airlocker and iam wanting to fit 33"s or 35"s on her but iam affraid the gearbox-transfer my not hold up to my expectations.
I can feel a bit of heat coming through the floor when ive been 4wd for along time and when iam on the beach in 3rd and 4th high i can hear a faint grinding so maybe its time to get the poor old box rebuilt $$$$$$$..

its a easy but dodgy way to fix a common problem.

I fitted 1 because oil from the t-case was being pumped in to the gearbox
(slowly)
thus leaving the t-case low and gearbox overfull

ok so i got it backwards ... the point is if its pumping oil from one to the other replace the $10 seal because that is whats causing it.

ok so i got it backwards ... the point is if its pumping oil from one to the other replace the $10 seal because that is whats causing it.

the cost of the seal isnt why people dont do it, its cause you have to drop the box to do it which is a pain in the arse, and if its done the seal once its likely that it will do it again in a shorter timeframe.

i do understand this. we do them often. you dont need to drop the box out. just lower it and remove the t-case..

The seals usely go because the bearings in the gearbox AND the transfer case are shagged
