Holley off road truck avengers
Does anyone know anything about these carbs? they sound like the go but the smallest they come out in is a 470cfm. Will this work ok on my 3.5 with stage 2 cam?
'78 2 door Rangie, 3.9L , 2" body, 4" long travel, 35s, rear locker, disco auto, caged. GQ 4.2 18psi, 5" lift, ARB lockers, 33s,
470cfm will be ok, but make sure the throttle pump volume can be adjusted to lessen drowning of the engine at short sharp throttle openings.
The good thing about holleys is the ability to adjust everything. Just don't drive them on an angle.
By stage 2 cam, what sort of lift and duration are you talking about?

Whats' wrong with your twin strommies? The strommies are still the best off-road carb IMO anything else is crap and not worth a pinch of shit
I hear people whinge that they don't offer performace, but I would rather go a bit slower on the road (any performace upgrade on a 3.5 is useless anyway) and have no flooding off-road than vice versa.
Not meant to be offensive, but I must be missing something here or I'm plain ingorant

The Holley Truck Avengers have been factory built for off road driving, and I have heard only good things about them. They don't suffer the same things as a normal Holley, in offroad applications, and are sized nice and small for max torque.

I'm the same, that's why I have a EFI Rangie. Although it's a 'flapper' style L-ject POS, it doesn't give me any headaches...YETcloughy wrote:

Still, I don't trust them. I've heard about the new Holley off-road carb but I'm still a sceptic til I see one that works. Really when you think about it, EFI options are now more affordable anyway and can add up to the cost of buggering arond with a carby anyway.

I would dare say these Holley Avengers would be quiete exspensive,why not look at a rebuilt Quadrajet....IMO they are a much better carbie than Holley and will work on just about work on any angle...

Thanks guys. I got hold of a pair of rebuild kits for the stromys for 85 bucks so i'll lust rebuild them and give em a good tune up. Sounds much better then around a grand on a manifold and holley if you guys recon that the stromys are the go anyway. The local carby shop didn't even seem to know about the off road truck avengers so i'd say cos they're a rare special app. thing they'd be double the price of a standard holley.

i just sold a manifold for a rangie on ebay to suit a 2 bbl holley! i used this on my Rover sedan motor in my lux for years. no real trouble off road on angles, goes well. sold to upgrade to 4 bbl. got a manifold from a bloke on this board to suit.
you can buy "flutes" thet stop flooding at heavy angles which do a good job, and just make some hardline to bend between the vents in the top of a 4bbl. drill small holes in it. just like they use on the truck avengers. works good. IMHO holley is a good carb for offroad applications. not the best i guess but fine, and they make good power!
