I have ongoing drama with my engine conversion that has turned into the project from hell and would like some advice from the group as to what I should do.
The project was Vitara 16V EFI into my ’86 Sierra.
Amongst a myriad of other problems the company working on my vehicle did not change the oil pan on the 1.6 over to the 1.3 one I have a 2” lift. For a number of reasons I have no desire to take it back to them. There looks to be only a couple of inches between the axle and the sump. So I’m guessin you guys will confirm what I already think…
I need to get the 1.3 sump on there…

hey mike.
yes you do need the 1.3 sump on there.to modify the oil pickup all you need to do is:use the 1.3 pickup butyou must cut the vitara oil pickup where it goes into the block(just above the retainer).once youve done this you will have a collar to go over your sierra pickup in the same spot, use some silicon over the sierra pipe then push the collar over this.you also have to chop about 50mm from the splash plate inside your sump towards the rear(NOTE..you only have to do this if you have the bearing rails under your crank).

You say that there is a couple of inches of clearance between the diff and the sump... measure the distance between the bump stop and the axel, if this distance is less, you may not have to do the sump change over because the diff will never get up high enough to hit the sump (Note: please allow an inch or so of extra room incase you really jump the car and hit the bumpstops hard).
However, as an interim fix could be to lower your bump stops at the front - that would stop the front diff from cutting up and hitting the sump.

on my zuk i was hitting the pinion on the bottem of my gear-box when i was on steep declines hitting stuff at speed, so i made a rubber bump-stop that fitted on my clutch cable arm(i have a vitara box though). it stops the bad diff from hitting, but dosent efect my articulation.
