Rim size needed for 35x12.5s

Ok ive got a set of 35s and am asking opinions on wat size rims i should use,Im putting them on a Mav Shorty so the question is whats better 15x10in rims or 15x8s.i personally would have thought a 15x10in rim would be better than a 15x8 because it would give the tyre a wider spread wouldnt it.Mav

I would just use the 15x8!

I have used this size with 35x14.5 Tsl Boggers and they fitted well and the worked really well.

I am currently running 38.5x16 Baja Claws on a 10 inch Rim and they fit and work well!

The major difference will be the PRICE and AVAILABILITY!!!!!

Yes you may get a slightly wider footprint by using the 10 inch rim but the Tyre will Bag out a lot more using the 8 inch Rim!

I think you will find that most people will be using the 8 inch rim with that tyre!

The bead will seat tighter at low psi with the 8 inch rim.
The tyres are only 12.5 inch if you use a 10 inch rim the rim will be nearly the width of the tyre and the bead will be relying more on air pressure alone to stay on.

Go for the 10" rim !

I first put my 35" muds on the original 8" rim and looked ok but noticed the tyres sit beter and fill out with the 10' rim, they also look fatter. :lol:

Don't know about lower tyre pressures though !

I've got 35x12.5 on 15x8 & 36x12.5 on 15x8....

I think the 15x8 is better for a) retaining the bead & b) for protecting the rim.....Sure 15x10 might look better - but bling bling isn't a big point thing for me ;)

If Thunder sees this thread i hope he'll chime in. 12.5 inch wide tires and 10 inch rims arn't a good mix without beadlocks if you plan on dropping pressures. Thunder had endless problems losing the bead with BFG's on 10's but hardly any with 8's. I've also never had any dramas with mine [35/12.5/15] mounted on 8's.

The only time I ever had problems with 35's on 8" rims was on a LWB GQ and single digit air pressure(5 and 8 psi).

At 11psi never once did I have a problem, where as mates with same truck, same tyres and 10" rims would roll tyres off the rim at 14psi.

I've just been offered some great 15x10 rims that I'm having a hard time passing up, I also run Simex tubes in my 35 MT's would this help the situation or am I just going to blow a tube?

in my opinion, 10's would be the go on the street, for looks, and drivability, less side wall flex, and 8's are for offroad, to protect the rim, and keep the beads seated.

What about the wear patern ?

Wouldn't the tread on the 10" rims have a flatter grip on the road and not wear as much in the centre ? :roll:

Hmm good comments by all party's, Whats the price difference between 8in rims and 10in rims(with beadlocks and wothout) and where do i go to source such rims in Vic.

As for the 10in rims being illegal im not fussed as i only use my Mav mainly on the weekends in the bush or if im going to use it for the road ill put on my 7in rims with 31s.small i know but they'll do the job.MAV

Legally you need an 8.5" rim (from memory) For a 35/12.50R15 but a 315/75R16 only requires an 8" rim. It doesn't seem to make sense, until you have an insurance claim.........Suddenly the engineers who design the tyres are the only opinions that have a bearing. Go with the 10's & if your state requires it, get them engineer approved. Not cheap, but better than paying for a non approved insurance claim.

ive got my claws on the 15x10 and below 14psi ive lost the bead a few times.....
ill keep the wide tyres on the wide rims ....if u play hard ,maybe consider bead locks...
