Starter motor.
Starter motor.
Morning all,
Every now and then, when i go to start the car, turn the key, and nothing. not even a click from the solenoid. i hot wired the solenoid straight to the battery and still nothing. So, given that i have checked the wiring, and presuming the solenoid is past it use by date, should i get a new solenoid, or go the whole way and get a starter motor. Has anyone just replaced the solenoid, and what does it cost?

I just recently fitted a reco starter.
I removed it and took it to the auto elec.
It cost $110
New ones or change overs cost much more.
It's not likely to be just the solenoid.
The little extra to reco starter as well would be wise.
They cop a lot of mud, and like the alternator, wear out frequently.

mine was having the same problem...turn the key and nothing and then a few more times and it works.....the return spring that returns the starter cog to the flywheel was sticking and i ended up ruining the starter coz i kept using it for a few weeks..ending up getting a brand new lucas for 160 installed.
