QIKAZZ: take that 60 in your Avatar and either bob the tail or make it into a SWB with two doors and then put that onto a GQ or 80 series chassis and you will have a very individual and capable rig. i just love the 80's box styling of the 60! the squareness is amazing :D

I have thought about modifying the 60, after all its already got the air lockers front and rear, so there is a immediate saving there, and although it is only a weekend rig, I cant afford for it to be off the road, I use it for towing my dirt bike around pretty often, also its not really the base I wanted to work with, being the fact its leaf, and LWB, when I was hoping for a SWB and coil. Oh and the body on the ol girl has seen better days haha. Shes startin to show the typical 60 rust in the roof.

I wonder if I can fit the 60 diffs into a GQ to save me some $$ LOL

Far to many options.

Good idea though, will give it some thought, I might be able to drop a bigger motor in her, do a quarter chop, 2" body lift and 35's or 37's onto the 60 for the time been.

Cheers

maybe something like Gloomis or brighty have just done would be cool. also check out heycharger's thread in the members section. he had just bobbed his 60 and done SOA but he rolled it shortly after :(
If it has rust starting in the roof just cut it out :D

Well for a LC, I’d go for SOA SWB 40 with a 12HT. Good flex, easy to find parts, tuff centers and good power to weight option. There wheel base offers heaps of traction, and when coupled with simex, there a weapon in the mud. Even when you knock the roof off and put fiberglass panels on them, they only get better…
For a Nissan, GQ SWB with the 3L Nissan motor. It isn’t hard to find a VL these days to put EFI onto it. They had great flex, tuff diff’s and good drive train. If your really keen, a turboed RB30 wouldn’t be that hard to find either………just comes down to what you want to spend.
Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times

2dr carby rangies are reliable, upgrade the diffs and you will have a cheap offroad beast.

great standard suspension, but easy to make very capable, 2 1/2" lift, correct shock choice, and some small flare chopping and you've got 35's under it (low cog). this is a very cheap and easy suspension setup, and flex's as hard as alot of the big money suspension setup's in other makes.

yes upgrade axles (jac mac, maxi-drive, or toyo swap) and modded toyo c.v's are a big benefit, on most 4by's with 35's lockers if you drive hard you will break standard axles sooner or later anyway? (depending on how you drive!)

can brace rear arms yourself for next to nothing - front arms should be fine, only 2 1/2" lift means no drive vibrations, etc.

don't getme wrong, these other trucks are great 4bys! but variation is needed in the scene  ,although there's probably a reason , we can't all drive GQ's, my thoughts anyway.

P.S. goodluck finding a 90...

Haven't you just answered your own question. GQ.

Why would you want to do this?
By the time you change the diff setup from leaf to coil it's not worth the gain if any (i don't think there is any) of the cruiser diff. Just to save you buying lockers? Nissan LSD is good enough, just source a front and you're done, might even pick up a vehicle with one.

I was asking the same questions a year ago Everyones advise was SWB gq or Mav I found an 88 Mav for $7000 XLT all the creture comforts in excellent contion.I put ina 4"lift 5 link front, rockhoppers, 35s different diff ratios ,and sway bar disconnects, haven,t managed to kill it yet.
The Fords where better fitted out, mine has a factory rear locker instead of the LSD it,s really comfortable and has plenty of room. The biggest downside is fuel fuel consumption I think its rated as litres per minute!!!!
I started out with nothing and still have most of it left !

I don't know bundys quite like I know shorty gq's. But you will find two variants a coil bundy and an older? leaf all round bundy. The coil bundys are 3-link front and rear ie; front is the same as an 80 and the rear is the same as the front of a patrol... <-- because of this you will rooster a lot of wheels and have less artic.etc than a shorty gq in the rear, especially when you start adding big lifts. Unless of course you want to change the link arrangements anyways 5 link front, A frame rear.. :D

I know looking different is important and just about everything that can be done in a swb gq profile has been done. But who cares IHO they are THE best base to start with..

Yes bundy has coils, 22r (petrol) is crap 2LT (diesel) is the pick however still slow. Bang for buck this would be the best setup. With the vehicle all you would need is coils out of a 80 (you can find them here all the time and this will give you a 2" lift) slightly longer shocks, a set of 33' and the truck will fit your bill!

LJ70 (bundy) has coils & 4 cyl engines
BJ70 has leaves all round except for the current 71 & 72 models which have the 79 series coild front end. The latter has the 1hz too :D

I thought the "Bundera" name was introduced with coils all round. If it has leaves, it's not a "Bundera."

sounds like thats another option, how would a bundy drive line handle a bigger motor? I beleive the gq will cope, but will the bundy?

Also does anyone have any more infor on the Ford Mav SWB model explanations.

correct. the ones with leaves didn't have weak hilux diffs and were called mid wheel base or short wheel base landcruisers. they had cruiser diffs with leaves

well I would prefer a diesel, so prolly a turbo 6 of some description, there is always a chance on a smallish 8 haha.

Not exactly sure, just toyin with ideas at the moment.

Perhaps I could just setup my 60 like this.
