GQ rear axle moved backwards?!?!?

Hi all,

After spending my hollidays in my recently adquired GQ LWB, durring which I run about 700 km off-road I fund out the benefits of a LWB vs a SWB....One of its is the way it climb and downhill, due to the longer distance between the axles...

And now, at the office, I'm thincking: what about moving backwards the rear axle with about 250- 300 mm?!?

Anybody tried it before?!?!?

Whats your opinion about it?

how about welding on another set of rear spring mounts at the rear of the hump with the left one on the right and the right one on the left.

Longer wheel bases are alot more user friendly.
My SWB is now a MWB with the rear axle moved back 13" and front forwards 3". ATM it is at 109" but is adjustable between 105" and 111".
To do this you have to do alot of cutting or convert to a tray.
NOW ABLE TOO SAY WHAT I WANT WITHOUT FEAR OF LOOSING SALES.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

Gabriel it is a simple exercise mechanically speaking, you simply need to relocate your:
coil spring seats
shock mounts
brake lines
panhard upper mount
rear tyre arch, rear bumper whatever is near the tyres needs to be cut off or clearanced.
build a new tailshaft
Possibly the fuel tank and or other items now in the way......
move the diff back,
you can either move your mounts back for your links or make some new longer links and bolt them in.

A GQ wagon is around 117" long, i think much longer than that, you might want to look at maybe getting a 4x4 bus, or something and hopefully that will be long enough :D those gq wagons are loooongggg muthas!

I had some idea about what I have to do in order to move the rear axle....my big question is IF it is worth to be done...I think so, but your opinions must be considered;-))

Anyway, in my car I have coil-overs (so not so difficult to construct other chassis points) and my plan is to have a full floating 4 link rear axle (so no Panhard rod support...). The diesel deposit can be an issue...

The coilovers will make it easy as.
I have moved my rear axle back about 60mm with the same 4-link you describe, that is as far as I can go without moving the coil mounts on the chassis and the crossmember that the holds the shocks and the fuel tank. Another 30-40mm and the tank would have to go as well.
If you are going to move it back like 200mm, you could run two smaller tanks parrallel with the chassis rails in the new space you will have made?? Either side of the tailshaft?
