The first step is a "vehicle identity" check, which (I think) is to confirm that the VIN no, engine no, etc are valid, and there's nothing obviously dodgy about the vehicle's history.
They seemed excited about front and rear track being 20mm over standard (I could have told them
), didn't appear to blink at body lift or suspension lift, and started referring to books about the tyres. I explained that the tyres are larger than they will allow, and expect to need an engineering inspection. They responded that they can't give me a concession and I explained in more detail that I was expecting to be sent to a third party engineer for independent assessment.
This brightened them up a little, and one of them jumped on the phone. They then told me to go to a different inspection station, and gave me a name to ask for.
No.
Turned up, found "name" and was told to fill out a form listing all my modifications, and they'd be in touch.
I listed the 50mm body lift, approx. 50mm suspension lift, large tyres (gave size), +20mm track change front and rear, and custom after-market long range fuel tank. Next step? Wait for instructions in the mail.
OK.Tonight, I receive a letter asking me to present the vehicle for inspection. Of the "50mm lift kit."
Body lift, or suspension lift? No mention of tyres, no mention of fuel tank.So. Will it really be this easy to get 33" tyres, body lift, and long range tank engineered in SA?
