LR workshop con menchants with Maxi Drive parts!

LR workshop con menchants with Maxi Drive parts!
I have made a couple of enquiries about Maxi Drive diff locks from 2 different workshops around Sydney. I have been told at both of these workshops that axles are not included in the price of your Maxi Drive diff lock assembly, these must be purchased seperately. One of these particular LR workshops quoted me $5500 for Front and Rear lockers with axles and C.V's
I rang Maxi Drive in QLD, spoke with Barry, and he sent me an absolute goldmine of information with their catalogue. In their bible, in bold print, it says that axles are included with locker assembly's and front C.V joints are to be upgraded.
These 2 workshops have just lost my business for being greedy. One of these workshops is located in the very outer suburbs of Sydney, and they were the one which did the portal axles on the white Disco in 4WD Monthly a couple of months ago. I am a diesel mechanic by trade and I don't like being treated like a fool.

cheer, serg
That is almost unbelieveable. Over $1000 profit on the parts alone...CycloneTracy wrote:These prices were for parts only. He saw my jaw hit the deck, tried to backpedal and suggest a rear only locker.

I don't think so as the standard MD front install includes conversion to AEU2522 CVs and they use genuine ones, which are stupid expensive. The $5500 sounds like what I recall even direct. it used to be $1900 per end plus the CVs/bushings etc.
Direct was the best..... Mal has some of the best service of any business I've ever seen. Discount for club membership, would buy your old crap if it was good. When I bought a locker from him, he stayed open very late to finish the job. It was the night before a long weekend where we were both driving the next day to an event. I didn't have a cheque book when I picked it up and he says "just pay me when you see me later". He didn't know me from Jack. Plus his labour costs were very low.
Now, if you were to actually do this, then going with one of the available Crhome-Moly CV options would make sense. This is regardless of whether you use M-D or JM.
edit: Hang on, I have a price list from.....1997?? Yep, $1900 for the locker, axles and drive members. Late model axles add $1312 for CV upgrade..... $5112 plus tax, so $5500 10 years later sounds right. So at ~$1100 for a direct replacement Ashcroft Chrome-Moly CV, it would be about the same.

Probably right John, though I was assuming the workshop would buy 2x1900 kits, plus bushes, then source the CVs themselves.red90 wrote:I don't think so as the standard MD front install includes conversion to AEU2522 CVs and they use genuine ones, which are stupid expensive. Yep I agree, around $5500 sounds about right to me and I went direct to Mal for my gear - 4.11's, rear locker and CVs.red90 wrote:I don't think so as the standard MD front install includes conversion to AEU2522 CVs and they use genuine ones, which are stupid expensive.
