Hello all. I have just recently bought a 1997 Auto 40th anniversary land cruiser 80 series. It only had 115,500 on the clock with not a hint of rust anywhere. The tyres all had at least 1cm deep grip incl. the spare. The company i bought it from converted it to gas and the car came with leather seats and all the other niceties. The car came with a bull bar and i put the spotlights off my old pulsar onto the bar. The car has had a body lift and the only thing the RAA could find was an indicator that didn't work and a warning light that wasn't working. The only thing that worries me is the fact that it appears to rev up to 2500rpm at 80km's when cold and seems to do that for perhaps 10 minutes after starting. I have tried just letting it wamr up for a couple of minutes but that doesn't seem to do anything. After 10 minutes, the car drops down to 1800-2000rpm at 80kms per hour. As i have said, the RAA did check it, but didn't say anything and i was just wondering if this was normal?

sorry, just another question and you will have to excuse my stupidity, but do you need a snorkel on a petrol motor? I thought you only needed one if you had a diesel. I know it is only used on water crossings, and my dad had a 70 series ute that was diesel. We were traveeling up a sand dune one day and the engine cut out because of water in the diesel. Nothing to do with a water crossing, but it meant that we had to roll back down the hill and empty the fuel tank. Very annoying, but that's why i bought a petrol model. A few people have asked me why i don't have a snorkel, but i haven't been able to give a straight answer.

Assuming you have a auto I reckon that the gearbox isn't going into overdrive properly, I would get the auto serviced and take it from there.
As for the snorkel you can put them on either petrol or diesel.
Aside from the water issues that snorkels help with the engine is also sucking cleaner cooler air from aorund you head height than from in the engine bay.

Maybe you should invest in a four wheel driving course. They will not only teach you the basics in wheeling, but basic care and what advantages different accessories make.

If you get water in yours you might have to do the same thing, but it may also stuff your air flow metre and maybe your computer.
When you do fit a snorkle, your electrics are more vulnerable then the diesel and be careful when you clean your engine as water will get in where the spark plugs are and they won't dry out as I found out the hard way.
I always thought it was a bad idea to wash my cars.

I prefer a diesel for water because of the electrics in a petrol.

Don't the 80 series have an auto throttle???? I'm pretty sure I have heard this mentioned somewhere, Im pretty sure my 94 petrol gxl does this!
