A mate was going to buy a 98 2.5 turbo disel
on the test drive the car overheated. Turned out to be the head gasket
the car yard has said they will fix it.
SHOULD my mate run a mile????
what do you guys think
The car yard is a reputable holden dealer !!!!!!!
RUN or BUY
YES run away, the TD XJ's are renound for head gasket issues, the heads are soft, and if the yard thinks its going to fit it cheaply, try min 10k to fix.
Tell him to go petrol.......it might be a bit thurstier - but it's MUCH cheaper to run since they run forever and are cheap to rebuild - unlike the diesel...
Yep thanks guys I have just been going through th dramas of deciding on a 97 turbo diesel or a petrol, I owned a surf and went through the whole head gasket and cracked head problem and never want to go there again, so glad I stumbled accross this thread.....
yep, the diesels are great when going, but exxy to repair! Go the petrol - heaps of go, not too heavy on juice if you drive it right (I ave about 12-14 lt/100kms), been around forever, heaps of advice out there!
