Hey all. Was out today and was climbing a small step. A sound came from the front end somewhere that made my skin crawl. It sounded as if a gear was not quit making it into place. Not a load sound but it made me stop. It only seemed to happed when i pushed up the rock face. Any Ideas? also has anyone got a ford 9" front or a dana 44 front for sale.

Could also be the t-case chain jumping a tooth. This can happen as they stretch and it sounds loud and nasty. Although it would be more under your feet than up front.
Better qualify that you need a passenger side drop on that 44 or 9", also 44 is more likely to be found. I'd be taking the diff cover off first though and having a look, make sure it's all in one piece still.
Ya it was from the front. the t-case has a differant noise all together. I was in four wheel for quit awhile after the event. I had to get out. why do you think a 9" would be hard to get?

dude - before you go changing diffs you should figure out for sure what has gone wrong... at least pull your axels, open the diff cover and have a look around, check your front driveshaft, etc.

Because they are custom made (AFIK ford never made a steerable 9 inch)

It's a jeep thing!
Most probably why you sold yours.
Isn't most of the fire truck now residing in the fire bug?...well, all the good bits, anyway.

You mean all the non jeep bits .. atlas, rockcrushers etc ..

Suggestions:
1. Check all your unis.
2. Check the Yoke - ie that it's tight.
3. Check the Ball joints.
4. Then pop the diff cover & check whats the status in there.
Although no doubt you are making a case to yourself justifying a new set of ProRocks, the reality prob is that it's something minor.

Wouldn't it be easier to just cahnge the diff over then check all that stuff.
I've seen a D30 being wheeled hard for about two years now with 37's and still not one problem with the front end. (Yes it is stuffed with chrome).
Just doesn't make sence to go change a complete diff when you hear something making a weird noise.
