ARB Airlocker or Rockhopper kit?

I am doing up my 1990 Sierra. So far I have new lifted suspension and muddies. I don't know what to go for next, either rockhopper or air lockers. I can only get one or the other now. What is going to give me the best offroad ability and best 'bang for buck' value first off?

Any thoughts?

airlockes , but if ya wanna be able to drive first and pick the right lines go the calmini not rockhoppers.

Depends on what size tyres you are running??
I personally would go with the gearing as i think you will learn the car and to drive better driving without lockers first.

id go the gearing. lockers will get you further but gearing will make the car more controlled offroad. (lockers the opposite) also the extra traction created by having a locker will make the car feel like the gearing is even worse.

Id go gearing first and weld the rear diff, then put an airleaker on the front when funds allow!

wat are you driving on/in ??
rocks , mud , hills , sand ?

go the locker , get hold of a 1litre transfer !!!

but the again , depends on tyre size , terrain driving on !!!

Go the gearing. Not having lockers will force you to pick your lines correctly, and the gearing will allow you to do so at a safe speed.

this will make you a better wheeler for when you do eventually get lockers.

I am building my 1990 Sierra for rocks & mud. I have no interest in sand. I am not going too overboard though - in WA our rock climbing obstacles are nothing like in NSW (I went for a run with the NSW Zook Club some years ago and was blown away!!). I have been 4x4ing for over 15 years, so understand lines etc, but want to be able to go a bit further, and do it a little easier.

Anyone know a good supplier & installer of Rockhopper gears in WA?

I would definatly go the gearing, just makes the car so much more drivable....

Go the Calmini gears direct from the US or 4x4usa is the dealer in perth in bayswater.

My Suzi has a rear air locker and half the time I forget to even turn it on because I never really need it.

I'd far prefer better gearing as at the moment the low range is no-where near low enough on 30's. Low range is where I have the most fun.

airlockers are great, love em, but acceptable gearing will always come first to me.

Once I put 31's on my Sierra I quickly realised I needed gears. Loose step hill I was spinning three out four wheels because I was geared too high. I just couldn't get enough power down at low revs to climb up.

if your running 30's or 31's then gearing coz low range just gets too high. But if running smaller than this i say locker....personally i think gearing is fairly useless without the traction to the ground that the locker provides...It doesnt matter how low your gearing is when you've got no traction. jmo and i can definitely see the advantages that others have mentioned. If your comfortable with running a welded rear then as mentioned...do both....lockers and gearing are fantastic when in combination with each other
