Sierra transfer case /gear stick

Post by salli »

Has anyone ever bent the transfer case gearstick selector tip that goes into the rails of the case? Since i broke a rear extension mount on the gearbox and 1 x transfer mounts which i have now replaced ,i have had problems with transfer case selection, sometimes it workes fine and other times it slots into places which is not part of the configuration and has no 4wd engagement ,so i have to pull the gear stick out and put in back in ,and then its fine untill i move the stick afew more times and the problems occurs again.

It is not the shifter bush ,as it is brand new ,and this problem only happened when i got airborn over a sand dune. I know it sounds impossible to bend the geartsick tip ,but anyone got any ideas? By the way its a 1992 sierra transfer case

I might be possible hat you have bent the tip, but also, the little bolt that threads into the back of the shifter and holds in square can wear and this will cause jams when shifting

Did you replace the bolt when you did the shifter sheet?

nah i didn't replace the bolt when i replaced the bush, there is a definately a problem ,its very frustrating.I think i will try another gear stick but i will have to cut the end off the new one as its in my Jimny and the stick has been custom bend to fit my floorpan and weld it to my custom gearstick.
whats the chance of chipping or bending a rail?

I think i have read once somewhere on here before someone has had this problem with the gearstick tip?
