1 Litre Carby options

Post by grader »

Hi all, I have an 84 Sierra 1 Litre. The carby is almost had and I was wanting to know what would be the best carby to change it over with. I am after a simple changeover that will give me added power, or would it be easier to change it over with a stock 1 litre carby.

Cheers.

It is not often that carbies are a throw-away as you can usually reco them (put a kit through, blow compressed air through the jets etc), so that is an option. Another option which I've seen in the past is twin SU's on a 1.0l. I'm not a fan of performance carbies on 4WDs because the float levels don't handle the ups and downs of rigorous offroading but the guy that carried out the conversion was determined to make it work. In the end he did have it working quite well. Offroad it was OK but onroad it was bloody good. It wouldn't be a simple bolt on and would need an adaptor as well as a lot of time spent in getting set up, but it is a possible option to consider.

Thanks for the suggestion, my dad has twin SU sitting in the boot of his Morris, could be worth investigating.

Are the 1L the same as a 1.3 bolt pattern? you could maybe try a corolla carb. I have one on my 1.3. works good.

Couple weeks. I just have to rebuild the bottom end first, then I can bolt on the shinny new head with stage 1 cam  And after that I will get cracking on makin a new inlet manifold.

The Delco computer should make it a little easier to put a small charger on the side

Would anyone else be interested in this setup if I can get it to work??

MADZUKI and Flyinwall

I will be trying to adapt the factory manifold if possible, otherwise I will have to fab up a new one. I will not be charging it straight away, but If the TBI setup works alright I will post details on the forum and let you know whats involved and if its worth it.
